Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a 1998, 100% Electric Ford EV ...... Low miles ...... Rare Atlantic Blue color ...... Own a piece of history , only this one has been updated to the newest technology. The original lead acid batteries were replaced with LiFePO4 cells ...... this one has 100 of the 100AH Hi-Power LifePO4 cells (the batteries alone cost $12,500). They should remain strong for 1500-2000 cycles (many years of life). By converting to the lithium cells, the truck is 1100 pounds lighter than with the lead batteries. It also performs much better. A new Battery Management System ($1500) has been installed to protect those expensive LiFepo4 cells ... this one has a 60+ mile-to-the-charge range and I have driven it 50 miles on occasion and the 'distance to empty' guage still showed 25+ miles remaining. I generally charge the truck after every 30-40 miles and it takes approximately one hour of charging for every 10 miles driven. The cost for electricity, here in the Northwest, is estimated to be about 4 cents a mile. The battery box cables and fans were replaced with brand new Ford parts. It has new shocks, a new Clarion bluetooth stereo with USB and aux. input, new Kenwood speakers, new bedliner and vent visors. The transaxle fluid was replaced, the motor coolant system was flushed and new Michelin tires were added. All work was done in 2011. This one is turn key ... finished, ready to drive. NO gas, NO Tune-ups , NO oil and filter changes every 3 months, no spark plugs. The truck does have some minor dings and dents on the body and bumper--but is in very nice condition for a 1998 truck. Also included are the DS-50 portable charging station--I have it mounted on the wall in my garage, but it can be used as a portable unit. It requires 220 V single phase power. I had a dryer plug installed and it works great. Also included is the NGS tester that interfaces with the truck and provides an impressive array of diagnostic data. Along with a disc that has the electronic versions of helpful information and manuals, I also have three binders with hard copy information including the 1998 Electric Ranger Student Guide, NGS tester info, charging info, battery info, the 2001 Ranger EV service manual, lots of photos and information on the conversion of this truck and several other trucks to LiFePO4 technology. I am NOT knowledgeable about EV components or battery technology. I encourage interested parties to research the vehicles at Wikipedia (search for 1998 Ranger EV), ranger-ev@yahoogroups.com, http://www.fordrangerev.com/REVolt.html, http://www.evsource.com/tls_lithium_hipower.php (for battery info), and http://southtownelanes.com/electric_pickups.html (for information on the conversion process). This conversion was professionally done by the person who has converted several non-working trucks to LiFePO4 technology (see the Southtownelanes.com website above). The truck may be advertised locally and I reserve the right to end the auction any time a buyer appears. Shipping is the buyer's responsibility (seems like common sense!). A $500 deposit is required from the winning bidder within 3 days of the end of the auction. This is a fun and unique factory electric truck. It is estimated that only 200-300 of the trucks remain and there are probably less than a few dozen that have been upgraded. In comparing this factory truck to a potential gas truck conversion, keep in mind that the factory Ranger EV has an automatic transmission, a powerful AC motor, regenerative braking, air conditioning and is ready to drive now! If you do an ICE conversion and use Hi-Power LiFePO4 batteries, you'll most likely spend more money, a lot of time and probably end up with an inferior vehicle. Again, I don't pretend to be well-informed about EV's, but the statements I have made are accurate according to my research and level of knowledge.
