The Village of Manteno Police Department in Manteno, IL is selling this surplus vehicle. This Jeep Cherokee was purchased new by the Village and has been used as a police car, a public works vehicle and most recently as our animal control vehicle. First the good stuff--71325 miles is pretty low for a vehicle this old. I just drove it around a little bit and it seems to run real strong-the Jeep 4.0 lt. in-line six is a good motor. I went on a gravel/dirt road and tried out the 4x4 system-which is 2 wheel--4 wheel high and 4 wheel low-you can shift on the fly from 2 to 4 high and have to stop and place in neutral for 4 low--though no indicator light on the dash lit when I placed the Jeep in 4 high and low-the system seemed to be working correctly. It has power windows, locks, and mirrors that appear to work fine. It has a front push bumper. The cloth seats are in decent shape-the drivers seat though is a little wobbly-I think a seat mount might have broke. The rear tires are in good shape with at least 1/2 tred life left. The fronts are worn and will need replacing soon. Under the hood looks pretty good-I dont see any major leaks and there is nothing on the ground where it was sitting. It has a 2 inch class 3 hitch and hitch wiring. At 67000 miles it had a new battery installed, new serpentine belt, new front axel universals, and new engine coolant temp. sensor. Now the bad stuff--the A/C does not work--it is believed to be the condensor and maybe other things-it blows hot air. It has a little rust here and there and a big spot on the front of the right fender-see pics.- There are a few good dents in the left front fender and hood area-see pics.-has a couple plugs on the roof to plug holes where emergency equipment was. It also has a metal repair job on the drivers side A pillar-this is where a spot light was once mounted-see pics. The AM/FM radio turns on and the digital read out works, but no sound comes from the speakers. Has a few screw holes on the dash and center console where various things have been mounted. It needs a good cleaning. Overall it needs some tlc and will probably run for a long time. The Village of Manteno Police Department is selling this vehicle AS-IS-no warranties.
