Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1978 Honda CB750F SS. I am the third owner, and have had the bike since 2003. I've spent a lot of time working on it and riding it, but I recently purchased another bike, so unfortunately, it needs to find another home. Over the years, a number of replacements, overhauls, and upgrades have taken place (probably too many to list) but I'll list the most important ones: The good: Carbs: These bikes are notorious for their Keihins getting gunked up, especially if they sit for any extended period of time. In 2008 the carbs were completely torn down, cleaned, re jetted, and built with all new gaskets and seals. They're absolutely spotless. I can provide a link to the cb750 forums where the overhaul was documented, upon request. Electronics: New battery, new rectifier, and new bulbs all the way around have been installed. Additionally, all new wire connectors were installed as well, as many of the old connectors had begun to fall apart from years of current. (See pics for new connectors). New points and condensers, plugs, and wire chop as well. Brakes: All three calipers have been torn down and rebuilt with new piston seals and rings. The rotors were replaced with drilled units at some point before I purchased the bike. While they look as though they could use a grind, the babies are solid steel and work very very well for a 30 year old bike. New fluid front as back as well. Tank and body: The inside of the tank is totally rust free, and is probably one of the nicest on a cb around. I have an inline transparent fuel filter that has been clean for years. Also, the paint on the tank was touched up with new clear coat back in 2007, and still looks great. The sidecovers are all intact as well, with no broken clips. Paint on these is fair, as is the paint on the rear cowl. The seat is almost perfect - it has a round tear the size of a pencil eraser on the side. Tires/suspension: New front tire with less than 100 miles on it. The rear tire is about 5 years old, with only 1 or 2k miles on it. The forks are leak-free, and the rear shocks were replaced in 2006 with adjustable aftermarket units. Engine: Surprisingly, the engine is the one area that never needed attention. The motor runs incredibly strong, and pulls all the way to 9k rpms without hesitating. Idles at 1100 without a hiccup as well. The sound of this thing purring through the deserted Chicago loop at 7am is hard to forget. The handlebars aren't original, and they are a bit lower than the stockies. I also put bar end mirrors on them to get rid of the bug antenna look of the originals. The bad: The odometer reads 9879 miles, but it realistically is closer to 11,000 miles, since the speedo cable was inop for one summer. Small oil leak, only after a long ride. It will drip on the hot exhaust and smoke just a tad. It never really bothered me, and it was never bad enough to have to add oil to the crankcase. The carbs were balanced after the rebuild in 2008, but they could stand another balance eventually. The chain and sprockets are still in good condition, but I would recommend replacing them soon. The exhaust has some discoloration around the header pipes, and a small dent in the muffler. No rust at all, however. Some general small rust spots here and there, and chrome could use a good polishing. Nothing out of the ordinary for an old bike like this. Sorry about the long post - I just wanted to be as honest as possible about the bike. All in all, it's a very good runner and rider, with tons of new and updated parts, and has been very well maintained over the years. Everything works on it, and I know it will make the new owner very happy. There is no reserve on the bike, so high bid gets it. Title is clear and in hand. A $300 deposit is due within 48 hours of auction end (via paypal) and the remainder can be delivered upon pickup of the bike (no personal check, sorry). I would be willing to ship the bike, but the buyer would have to organize and pay for all the associated crating and pickup fees. Please feel free to email with any questions, or any requests for special pictures. Thanks for looking!
