Vehicle Detail

1954 Buick Skylark M100 Convertible 1 of 836 The proverbial “Barn Find” This very complete project car designed by Harley Earl was born from the Experimental XP-300 Buick. Amazingly it has been sitting in the past owners possession for over 50 years and is ready to be restored. In 1953, Buick introduced the special Skylark anniversary convertible. Built on the Roadmaster chassis, it carried its own unique fenders with open wheelhouse and inner fender panels of either red or white. There were also special badging, a lack of fender portholes, and the 40-spoke Kelsey-Hayes wheels to set the car apart from the rest of the Buick lineup. The beautiful new Buick Skylark was available in very limited numbers. It was one of an exclusive group of cars that were offered to the public almost exactly as they were displayed among the futuristic dream cars presented at the GM Motoramas. The other introductions for 1953 were the Oldsmobile Fiesta, the Cadillac Eldorado, and the Chevrolet Corvette. For 1954, all but the Fiesta would return to their respective showrooms but it was only the Skylark that would stand out as being more special than the others. As a flagship car it continued to be produced in small numbers. For its second year there were only 836 convertibles produced almost half the number produced the previous year. It was a car that took every option available and made them standard. The model demonstrated exuberance without reservation and yet its overall appearance was very handsome and stylish without being garish. The grille in particular was like a giant comb of chrome bristles, and the colored inner fender walls were a creative touch that could not be duplicated by anyone else. They were truly remarkable, and the Skylark was indeed the type of car that became collectible the minute the last one rolled off the assembly line. At some point the original engine and transmission was believed to have been changed. Originally it was equipped with a 322 cid overhead-valve V8 rated at 200 horsepower, three-speed Dyna-Flow automatic transmission, independent front suspension with coil springs and live rear axle with leaf springs, four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes; wheelbase: 122" Decades ago it was refinished in the stunning Black paint with Bright Red Interior over the factory Condor Yellow Paint with Black and Yellow Interior. As you can see in the pictures the floors need to be replaced and floor pans are available from C2cfabrication.com . Some other minor items of note that are missing are the following. Antenna, light lenses, a few knobs, inside lower trim molding, small seat trim piece and BUICK letters on hood. Not so bad for being 57 years old… How many original parts are you missing? I am happy to help put you in touch with some invaluable resources to find these missing items. A few of these properly restored pieces have brought over $150,000.00 and continue to grow in interest. A spectacular opportunity to own an iconic automobile. It is rumored that there are less than 50 to survive.
