Vehicle Detail
2006 BMW K1200LT. Here’s the story on this bike. I love it. I am a long time Harley rider and always wanted to own a BMW. It was very difficult to find a full touring model to ride for any length of time so I decided to buy the best used one I could find at the cheapest price. This is that bike. I’m now a fan and plan to place an order for the new 1600 touring model once this bike sells. I bought this bike on eBay. I got it from a salvage company who got it from an insurance company after the owner banged up the front end. The salvage company had to replace one fork, the front tire, front fender, fairing, and headlight. I got a good deal on the bike and I’ve had a certified BMW mechanic go through it to make sure it is sound. It is. He gave it a 12,000 mile servicing, and replaced all fluids and spark plugs. Just for grins, I also had a BMW motorcycle dealer inspect it too and change the rear bearing in the final drive unit as a precaution. Details on these services will be provided on request. There is much to like about this bike and because it has a salvage title you can own it cheaper than any other LT of the same condition and vintage. This bike is in excellent condition and ready to ride but it will need a rear tire within a couple thousand miles. It is missing the whip antenna but it does have after market highway pegs that flip out and stow easily with the toe of your boot. (see photos). Bike is also pre-wired for GPS (you’ll simply have to find the unit that mates with the wiring). This is a high tech precision machine. It has won the Motorcycle News Tourer Award six times. It really shines at road speed with two up on curvy roads. At times it feels like a sport bike and the ABS brakes are excellent. A Goldwing may have more power but it won’t keep up with the LT in the twisties. Neither will the Harleys. I love the suspension. It is a unique design that easily adjustable by way of an easy access adjustment wheel under the flip-up seat. It’s my understanding that the bike was redesigned in 2004 and BMW upped the horsepower by 15 percent. The bike has great range and good fuel economy (45 mpg @ cruise). It has a diagnostic system that monitors the entire electrical system and all electronics. It’s got a reverse gear, an electrically activated center stand, heated seats, heated handgrips, and a windshield that can be raised or lowered at the touch of a button. I love this feature. The Harley has none of these things and the Goldwing only has a reverse gear from what I hear. This is one beautiful bike. I have yet to take it out and not get a comment. Prior to this, I had a 30 K + custom Harley that rarely got praise. That’s the problem with a Harley. They are a dime a dozen and it’s hard to stand out. Not so with this bike. It turns heads and those BMW emblems evoke pure snob appeal. Full specifications available on request. Buyer is responsible for shipping and/or pickup.
