Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE What is there to say about a beloved 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III (BJ8)? It’s the quintessential British sportscar, in my opinion. It’s beautiful. It’s powerful. It’s (let’s admit it) sexy. This car is a great driver. It’s no trailer queen, but it’s not a clunker, either. It has been driven a few times this spring already, so we can vouch for its roadworthiness after a winter sleep. The engine was expertly rebuilt within the last 2,000 miles. This thing purrs. The valves have recently been readjusted, so it’s good to go. It also had the brakes master cylinder replaced within the last month, and it stops on a dime. It’s had a Smitty transmission conversion, so it shifts like a dream. I suppose it’s sad to have lost the…ahem…”personality” of the original transmission and its temperamental overdrive. (All talented divas are temperamental, you know.) But the 2005 Toyota Tacoma transmission allows you to stop worrying about whether it will even shift at all and start thinking about the fun of the drive. We still have the original transmission, which needs to be rebuilt, and will discuss the sale of that item separately, if you’re interested. As you can see, it was painted a non-original dark blue several years ago by a previous owner. The paint does have a metallic flake in it, but it’s a small flake like a modern car, not large flake like a hotrod. The paint, upholstery, and carpet are…let’s say comfortable. They’re not perfect, but they’re not worn out. There is a gas stain on the paint behind the gas cap, as pictured. The only thing that really should be replaced is the top. And who wants to put the top up, right? I can say in good faith that I can’t find rust on this car, besides the expected rust on the outside of the exhaust system. (Incidentally, the two rear mufflers themselves were replaced last year.) Now, I’m not an expert and wouldn’t want to mislead anyone. It’s possible that there is rust somewhere on the body, but all the panels look and sound intact. The car has been garaged the entire time we’ve owned it. We’re selling the car because of a job move to the other end of the country. With no place to store the Healey, it needs to find a new, loving owner. As you can see from my feedback, I’m more of a buyer than a seller. We have sold cars before on eBay – an MG Magnette shell, an Austin Mini, and a 1996 Chevrolet Impala SS. All those sales were years ago, though, so the details aren’t available on eBay anymore. All the sales went smoothly and we want this transaction to be just as smooth. Please ask any questions you may have before the end of the auction. We’ll do our utmost to be honest and forthcoming and trustworthy with all answers. Here comes the fun part. These are our rules so you don’t wind up hating us and we don’t wind up hating you. It’s no fun to hate people. Terms of sale No sales to overseas buyers. Period. Don’t ask.No, seriously, if you want it and you’re not in the U.S., find someone in the U.S. to buy it for you and ship it to you. We won’t be that person.$2000 deposit due within 48 hours of auction end.Transaction must be completed within two weeks of end of auction.Car is sold as is, where is.Buyer is responsible for transporting the vehicle from its current location. We will work with the buyer if needed to meet your transport company. - All payments must be made in certified funds. No personal checks. Again, please ask any questions you may have. Let me know if you’d like more pictures. We’ll be happy to work with you to make sure you have a complete picture of this car. On May-16-11 at 06:39:12 PDT, seller added the following information:Here are more comments about the condition of the car from my husband: Tires are in good condition radiator was rebuilt during the time of the engine rebuild. None of the hydraulics were worked on was not necessary at time. With exception of the recently replaced master cylinder. Oil pressure stays at around 20 on the gauge when idling hot. And we have owned the car since 2001. I found the receipt so here is what was done to the front end. Replaced all bushings King pin set, top trunnions, resealed rear differential and replaced wheel seals, gaskets O-rings repacked wheel bearings. I personally would not drive it across the country. I know you're surprised by that, I'm not sure if I would drive any classic car across the country. On May-17-11 at 19:31:40 PDT, seller added the following information:I tried to add this last night, but it didn't stick. Either I did it wrong or I'm not allowed to share a link to an album outside eBay. I created an album of 77 pictures of the car here: http://rides.webshots.com/album/580206595tdtgKU The album includes the shots you see in this auction along with many close-ups that I hope will give you a good idea of the true condition of the car. Please take a look and let me know if you'd like more pictures. I'd rather give you too much information than not enough! On May-19-11 at 10:14:39 PDT, seller added the following information:Hi, bidders! Just a quick note about bidders with zero feedback. We don't intend to categorically cancel any bids from buyers with zero feedback. To do so seems unfair to those with a legitimate reason for creating a new account. However, please know that we will check with those bidders and verify contact information. eBay can be a nerve-wracking place to do business for both buyers and sellers, and it's unfortunate that there are scammers out there who make doing business difficult for all of us. I just wanted to give you a heads up that if you have zero feedback or a very new account, you may get a notification that I'm checking your account. If you're legit, there's no reason to panic! Also, you will receive my contact information when I do so, so feel free to check up on me! Thanks again for all your interest and thanks for understanding our caution. On May-21-11 at 12:51:48 PDT, seller added the following information:In response to numerous questions about the top and the paint, we've taken a number of very detailed pictures of the car. http://rides.webshots.com/album/580231830essUdJ You'll also find a number of pictures of the original transmission, which does not come with the car but will be offered to the buyer of the car, along with the drive shaft, gear lever, and clutch plate. We will negotiate the price after the sale of the car. If the buyer is not interested, the transmission will be auctioned at a later date. We did our best to make the Healey look its worst. We tried to document all paint and body problems thoroughly. At the request of several buyers, we put the top up and were able to latch it on the driver's side, but did not latch it on the passenger's side. It should be possible to do so with more effort. We were unable to zip the rear window, and we do not expect to be able to do so. The zipper seems to be thoroughly stuck in the open position since the first zipper tooth seems to be misaligned. Note that the rear window is discolored, as we tried to document with the photo taken from the inside of the car. As one buyer pointed out, it would be inadvisable to ship the car without the top up and we would do our utmost to ensure the weatherization of the car if the buyer plans to ship the car in an open carrier. We recommend, however, that the buyer arrange for shipment in a closed container, and we will be able to give a recommendation of the service we used when we moved to Las Vegas.
