Vehicle Detail
For Sale, Classic 1970 Triumph Bonneville 650cc T120R. I bought this motorcycle in the mid-1980s from a collector. I sold it in the 90s, regretted it, and bought it back. Now, with another baby due, I need to sell again, and am prepared to regret it again. The bike is in great running condition and is stock except for Boyer electronic ignition, mirrors, and sealed beam headlight. Frame and engine numbers match. I have invested thousands over the years, with the work done by the highly respected Don Hutchinson Triumph of Wakefield, Massachusetts -- including new pistons, top end, electronic ignition, carburetors, forks and springs, pipes, etc.--plus regular maintenance. The paint appears to be original, but I can't promise, because I didn't buy it new. I know it hasn't been painted since the 1980s when I first got it. It starts on the first or second kick, and is a pleasure to ride. Smooth and powerful. Wonderful sound. I've put only a few hundred miles on it each year, as I have a newer bike for longer trips, and I stored it for a while too. The Dunlop K-70 tires are almost new. No leaks. Mileage is 4985 since the collector's rebuild, plus a few more because the speedometer stopped working last fall. The clutch engages when the lever is relatively far out, but it has always done that. I noticed today the neutral light in the headlight nacelle needs a new bulb. Horn and all running lights all work fine and it's registered. Other issues are cosmetic--some pitted chrome, surface rust, and paint scratches. The pictures represent pretty well. It needs a good polishing, but I'm still riding it. The bike could be put in beautiful condition with some love. Restored 1970 Bonnevilles can go for well over $10,000. 1970 was the pinnacle of the classic Bonneville, before they went to oil in the frame and a less flowing look. Runs, looks, and sounds the way a motorcycle should. Lightweight, low to the ground, all metal no plastic. Clear Massachusetts title. You could buy a new one, but this one will hold its value. This year-model is the favorite among collectors. Good background from Hemmings here: http://www.hemmings.com/hmn/stories/2007/01/01/hmn_feature19.html and lots more on the web. Bike is in Woods Hole, MA on Cape Cod. Available for local pickup. If you want to handle shipping yourself, you can email me about it. NOTE: I just added a bunch more pictures, and increased the resolution so you can see more detail.
