This was my daily driver for years but has been parked about 6 months in the garage now. here's the story. I bought it with a rebuilt engine from a local vw shop in hutchinson (no warranty). It ran well but needed lots of small things. I replaced the stationary vent wings for movable ones from a GTI. I put in a fuctional Sony AM-FM cassette,added a chrome handle for the sunroof,tinted the windows,replaced the tires (still almost new) etc. Engine-wise I recently I replaced the water pump, timing belt,radiator,glowplugs,battery,alternator and had the seals replaced on the injection pump due to leaks. Then the engine ran hot one day and blew the head gasket (probably a stuck thermostat). I had the head milled and haven't touched it since. Just not enough time to get back into it. Body-wise it has a fair amount of surface rust but nothing going thru. Same for the shock towers (a common weakness for these cars). Underneath the pan looks good with just 1 spot about the size of a half dollar where the there is a rust hole almost thru. The picture of the front makes the hood look like it has a big rust-hole just behind the bra. This is grease on the hood from taking the head off. Interior-wise it has could use seat covers but is fuctional (padding but tears on the front seats). The odometer doesn't work but the rest of the gauges do (Body-wise I'd estimate 150k mileage but engine-wise about 20k). Blinkers need trouble-shooting. Headliner is good. This car ran great while i drove it,got around 40+ MPG and was reliable. I have well over $3,000 into it. I'm starting the auction at $150.00 no reserve, which is what the salvage yard will pay for it. This would be an easy repair for someone to get a high mileage car for cheap. Currently the head is OFF and the car does not run nor is it drivable. Selling AS-IS, where is.
