And everything that needs to be done to these cars, has already been done to mine. The money has already been spent. Car was hit from the back at 34K miles and re-built. This car is in great mechanical and aesthetically condition. But before you go out and buy just any BMW, you need to read what's in here, because after 80K miles, there is a lot that will go wrong. It is a car that has engineering ahead of it's time. And parts do wear out and need to be replaced. This car is ready to go. Get in and drive for a LONG time. Everything that goes wrong with this cars (do your research please in forums and costs of ownership) already has. I have spent countless time figuring out problems and obtaining the rare parts needed for this car. Along with the car you will get a copy with all the documentation of service history, repairs and also a WEALTH of information of where to obtain ANY PART needed in the future for the car. If you are looking to purchase an 850i BMW, make no mistake this is the one you want. See, it is inevitable that it will have service problems after 80K, and after you address them all, the car will be good again for another 100K miles. Everything that could fail on this car, already has, and the services and replacements have been performed. Please read all the service history below, documentation in hand. Total service & necessary repairs needed after 80K miles: $15,000. So if you are going to buy an 850i, BE PREPARED TO SPEND THE MONEY. This car is now in perfect mechanical working condition. All the hard work, parts finding, replacement, and diagnosing which is a huge headache as it is hard to find technicians that know this car well has already been taken care of. (this is no joke, all documentation in hand. Do your research.) The only thing this car needs at this point is a paint fix, as over the years it has been damaged by the sun. And you will be good to go. All service has been done by BMW Independent La Jolla. The only place around here that seem to know what they are doing with this model car. The BMW dealers are no longer trained and don't do a good job. Fixes done to the car (documentation in hand): • Throttle bodies have been replaced, both of them. This tend to fail in this model car after 80K miles, and also in 7 series from year 2000. It is a common problem. If you are looking for an 850i watch out for this. Cost of replacement is $1200 per throttle body plus labor. This was a $3,000 job. • New mass air flow meters. These they don't make anymore, and they do fail at around 85K. Had to send the old ones to Germany and get rebuilt ones from Bosch shipped back. Total cost: $350 • Full Tune up. This means new spark plug cables, which were $700, new spark plugs, $228 (you can't use just any spark plugs or the engine wont work right. Has to be the exact ones gapped correctly made out of copper. Found this out the hard way. New caps and rotors $250 plus labor. Total cost: 1,650 • Needed a few new oxygen sensors + labor. Cost $98 • New brakes and rotors. $767.69 • New Tires, currently only 4K miles on them. Free replacement plan purchased from discount tire, + lifetime balancing and repairs included. Tires are G-Force BF Goodrich which are one of the best ones for this model. Upgraded to wider tires: Front: 245/40zr-18 and Back: 275/35zr-18. Cost: $1,012.47 • New Fan Clutch. $250 • New Front suspension upper and lower control arms, Reaction Rod Bushing, Automatic transmission Fluid replacement. Cost: $1560.05 • Repaired oil leack from stick oil deeper. Cost: $410 • Water pump has been replaced for a brand new one, $800 • Upholstery has been refreshed. $350 • Sunroof failed and needed new rails & motors + labor. $700 • Ashtray assembly repair. $120 • Front seat driver side electrical system repair. $360 • New upper radiator hose $43.45 + labor. Total Cost $73.45 • New fuel pumps and housing replacement (has two of them) + labor. Total cost$1,003.93 • Alignment done by professionals, Clarence Brown, the the only people who know how to align this car properly in San Diego. Dealer could not do it: Cost $137.90 • New catalytic converts and remus exhaust system + labor. Total cost $3,508.81 • Transmission Pan Gasket replacement + trans fluid + labor. Total cost: $236.38 • Adjust steering gear backlash. $88.20 * Parking break fix. Total cost $250 • Replace the rest of the oxygen sensors + labor. Total Cost: $490.93 • Radiator thermostat, belt replacement & door module replacement. Total Cost: $425 • New batteries (has two huge ones in the back) $300 • Replaced old cassette stereo player for OEM BMW CD player, which was only available in the UK for 850i. Stereo was obtained from UK. Total Cost: $350 • Pulled off old purplish window tinting and replaced with Light window tinting with UV protection to complement the car's Look. $250 • Service & oil changes every 3,000 miles. $115 each.
