Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1993 Mazda RX-7 R1. I'm still digging for receipts so I'll continue to update the details as I remember them and find receipts for them. I've had this car for 10 years and have probably spent close $80k upgrading just about everything I could upgrade. I'm not sure why the history report says 5 calculated owners but only shows the three title changes. I am only the 3rd owner and I bought it locally with zero mods in 2001. I continuously modified the stock engine until it popped in 2005 and then decided to swap for the LS1 instead of rebuilding. My main motivation to swap was gas mileage. I get about 16-18mpg city and 25mpg on the highway with the current setup and it’s ridiculously fast and fun to drive. The swap was completed in 2007 and then the bottom end was completely rebuilt in 2009 and has just over 6000 miles on it now. It’s got a mild cam but stock heads and manifold. I absolutely love this car and had every intention of keeping it indefinitely. Unfortunately, like so many others, I've fallen on hard times and need the cash. I have a clear title in hand. No trades please. Here’s a list of mods: 1. Fiberglass Scoot Hood. The center channel was removed to clear the strut tower brace. I lost my hood prop somewhere along the way. I do not have the stock hood anymore but you can still use one without any clearance issues. 2. Fiberglass FEED Type II front bumper with 99 spec combo lights. The lights are still in great shape but the bumper is pretty beat up and needs to be repaired or replaced. The gap between the hood and bumper used to look normal but now it's pretty big because the bumper is cracked in so many places and doesn't sit right. There is zero damage to any of the underlying support beams. I raised the car up a bit from where it was so you shouldn't have the any problems with a new bumper and I would probably go back to urethane. 3. HID Projector Headlights - stock halogen assembly was modified to house HID projectors from Audi TT for stock look with better vision, ballasts are mounted inside fenders under headlights. 4. CCW 3 piece race wheels, 18”x10.5” all the way around with titanium studs, black McGard spline drive lug nuts, brand new Hankook 285/30/18 tires only have about 500 miles on them. Fenders were rolled. The paint on the edge of the fenders chipped a bit where they were rolled but otherwise the paint is in good shape, excluding the front bumper obviously. There are no clearance issues with the wheels. 5. Eibach/Koni adjustable coilover suspension. Power steering is still fully functional. 6. Brembo 14” Big Brakes on front and 13.5" on rear with ss lines, motul fluid, and cooling ducts on the front. Ebrake was deleted but I was told it can be added back with a custom fabricated bracket. ABS is still fully functional. 7. LS1 is from a 1998 Camaro and is currently putting down just under 400hp to the rear wheels. Callies Crank, Oliver Billet Rods, JE Pistons, Thunder Racing cam: 224@0.050", 0.563" lift, on 112 degree centerline, Cloyes double roller timing chain, Manley pushrods (stock length), titanium retainers, LS6 springs, Centerforce flywheel and clutch set. This thing will handle plenty more power if you really feel the need but it's already plenty of fun. I wish I could have done heads, intake manifold, and throttle body. Very nice idle, no surging issues. Tuned by Mike Norris. 8. 2003 Ford Cobra 8.8” LSD IRS with 3.55 gears was installed into a cradle from Justin Samberg along with axles from the driveshaft shop, installed new hubs and upgraded bushings. I think the axles are rated for 600hp but you'd have to call them to verify. 9. Upgraded Racing Beat front and rear sway bars with widefoot racing front sway bar mount. 10. Custom built radiator keeps stock mounting angle but adds plenty of capacity to keep the ls1 cool. It was made by a company in or near Daytona (have to find the receipt). Mazdaspeed fans are set to come on at 185. There are absolutely no cooling issues with this thing even under load in the 95 degree florida summers. 11. Upgraded fuel system will easily handle more power. Replaced pump and lines. FPR is located near cruise servo. Every once in a while the pump needs to be primed twice before the car will start. I think an adjustment to the fpr might solve it. It only happens in the morning and it always fires up on the second try so it's no big deal I'm just trying to think of every possible issue that should be mentioned no matter how small. 12. New 7/8 Wilwood clutch master cylinder and new Chevy slave cylinder installed last year. 13. New thermostat and water pump installed last year. 14. All suspension bushings were upgraded to Jim LaBreck’s unobtainium delrin bushings. They have been great but have dried out over the years and started to become rather noisy. I just bought a replacement uerethane kit but haven’t installed them yet. 15. 3M window tint and 99 spec tail light conversion done by a local shop. Also, removed the stock R1 wing. I added an Ungo alarm for keyless entry with window modules for auto up upon locking. It has power locks and windows. I have noticed the windows slowing down a bit lately though so the motors are probably going to be due for replacement before too long or it could be that the tracks need to be lubricated. 16. Custom exhaust with Corksport muffle (sounds awesome) (no cats) 17. Momo Apache steering wheel, Momo leather shift knob, and Momo leather boot. I do not have the original steering wheel but the SRS system is still intact if you wanted to add an OEM wheel with airbag. 18. OEM cruise control was added as the R1 didn’t come with cruise or rear wiper, cruise controls located where ash tray would be. 19. Interior plastic painted SEM titanium gray to match custom leather two tone seats, white gauge faces installed (all stock gauges still function). Autometer Water temp guage pulls temp as it exits motor before radiator and is located in a center channel pod on dash with a/f gauge. 20. Custom bolt in 4 point roll cage is easy to remove and install but I usually leave it in. 21. Halon fire extinguisher behind passenger seat is reachable by seatbelted driver in case of an emergency. It’s supposed to be interior and electronics friendly so you won’t ruin everything else in the process of putting out a fire. 22. Full Alpine dvd, nav system with ipod adapter, Boston Acoustics speakers, hard wired for Passport radar. The amp has been cutting out on bumpy roads. I think there might be a loose wire. I'll ty to look at it this week. 23. A/C is fully functional and blows ice cold, the heater hoses aren’t hooked up so there’s no heat (didn’t need it in FL) but it’s easy enough to get going, just need to run the hose and connect a valve. Heater core was replaced in 2009, compressor and expansion valve were replaced in 2010. There is an aux switch by the shifter that activates the compressor. The shop that did the work couldn't get it to work through the stock button and I didn't bother to take it anywhere else because it didn't bother me. 24. The Hinson conversion parts were used along with their long tube headers. The car was designed to be a completely streetable daily driver with good gas mileage capable of embarrassing 95% of the other cars on the road and running decent lap times on the Sebring road course. I've run 11.7 in the quarter but it’s really not setup for drag racing. I had planned on upgrading heads, intake manifold, and going with a more aggressive cam. Also, the battery could be relocated to install a proper cold air intake and the diff gears could be changed for better acceleration. Otherwise, there’s not much left to do but drive it. If you're flying in, you'll probably want to come into Orlando. I'll be happy to pick you up at the airport. I have a ton of parts laying around including the stock rear end. If you want them, I'll include them. I have the service manuals for motor and car. I also have a dual channel AEM wideband that I never installed. That’s all I can think of for now. Happy bidding. Feel free to email or call with questions. Trevor 772 538 5568 On Apr-18-11 at 14:34:32 PDT, seller added the following information: The rebuild was done by Total Engine Concepts in Riviera Beach, FL. I spoke to Mike this morning and he said the compression ratio should be close to stock (10.5:1). Dynamat Damping material was added throughout the car. The Koni's are set to soft, I'll include the tool to adjust. I've had quite a few questions about the front bumper. There is zero damage to any of the underlying support, it's only the fiberglass cover that is damaged from years of scraping and bumping into things when the car was adjusted lower. I spray painted over the cracks with flat black so they wouldn't stand out so much. I would have replaced it prior to the auction but I figured it would be better to let the new owner replace it with what they want. I've also had several questions about the paint. The paint is chipped a bit on the front fenders where they were rolled. There is zero fading and no rust that I can see but there are various scratches here and there from wandering roof tiles in the hurricanes of 2004. I'd say the paint looks pretty good overall but it could probably use some attention in the not too distant future. I get compliments on it all the time. It's a very clean car but it's no garage queen. It was built for function and gets driven. I just checked the fluids, changed the oil (mobile 1), checked the tire pressure, tested the battery, put in new plugs, and replaced the O2 sensors last week.
