Vehicle Detail

I have finally made the agonizing decision to sell my 1972 Javelin AMX. Now with 3 “classic” cars I find I do not have the time (or money) to dedicate to all 3 and room in the garage is also getting tight. I postponed this ad after taking the pictures a couple of weeks ago. After going out to the garage, taking off the car cover to take the pictures I just couldn’t bring myself to offer it for sale, the car is just that pretty. But now that a week or so has passed I can do it, I just need to leave it in the garage under cover so I don’t see it and get all misty eyed again. With that said: To view more pictures go to my slide show at: http://s1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd458/javvy4sale/?albumview=slideshow Pictures include Javelin AMX with Chip Foose when it was in a special showing for him in 2008, the only AMC to be shown. Also a picture of the car at the awards presentation at the 2009 Hilton Head Concours d'Elegance show. For your consideration is my 1972 Javelin AMX, VIN# A2E798Hxxxxxx. The car was an award winner at the 2009 Hilton Head Concours d’elegance show, winning a Palmetto award in the pony car class. In its first show at an AMO national in 2009 it won a Junior Gold concours and advance to the senior division. The next year at the AMO show in Detroit it won a senior silver award, 2 points shy of gold (judging is much harder at the senior level). As you can see by the VIN the car was born with a 304/3 speed manual. When I acquired the car in 2007 it had an AMC 5.9L/360 in it with its original 3 speed transmission. It has 3.54 gears and a peg leg. l After purchase I brought the car to Then & Now restorations in Marietta, GA. They are famous for their Buick Stage 1 restorations and have even been mentioned on the Barrett Jackson auctions when one of the cars they have restored crosses the block. I had them replace the damaged front spoiler, smooth out the hood as it had a hood scoop at one time in it and repaint the car in its color, D-7, Trans Am Red. At that time they also installed new Legendary seat covers, front and back, and a new headliner as well. I installed the new carpet over fat mat sound deading material after it came home. After it left their shop it went to the shop of George Doughtie here in Georgia. George is the Hi Tech/race car advisor to the AMO national club and a long time AMC mechanic. George pulled the engine and found it to need nothing, already having a mild cam it. He installed a period Edelbrock R4B intake manifold with a new Edlebrock 600CFM carburetor and a Crane XR-I electronic ignition unit (replacing the points). He also put in new brake lines and a master cylinder for the manual 4 corner drum brakes. As the car had originally come with a 3 speed transmission I had George rebuild a T-10 4 speed with Hurst shifter and install it in the car, along with a new clutch and correct T-10 bell housing. The T-10 choice is much better for this car and its performance. A new radiator was added along with a new starter as well. I put on new chrome Magnum 500’s with new center caps and correct American Motors inserts. Goodyear Radial T/A tires were put on in 2008 and are still like new with only 3,000 miles on them. An aluminized exhaust with flowmaster mufflers was added and it sounds awesome. Last year I put in a new windshield as the old one had many scratches and a re-chromed front bumper as well. The taillight housings have been re-chromed and an excellent set of taillight lens now grace the rear end. Space saver tire is nice in the trunk, I would use if for show only as the bottle is empty, jack and handle present under spare tire. The AM radio, while looking 100% stock had been converted by Tayman Eelectrical in Sarasota, FL to AM/FM with rca inputs for things like an IPOD. I use my IPOD all the time in this car, the radio now sports I believe 40x4 watts but I only use two speakers under the rear package tray. Rear seat belts are out of the car as I Iike the clean look of the seats without them but they will be included with the car. I also installed a tic-tach-toc dash as the car came with a plane Jane dash when I got it. New 140mph speedometer was added and currently shows 2,900 miles. Original speedometer was not working when I got it; the title that came with the car had no miles on it so the current Georgia title shows mileage exempt, something many classic car titles show. Car did not have a console when I got it but I added an automatic console with a very hard to find 4 speed shift plate which I had to pay $500 for (don’t let that out of your sight, they are harder to find then hens teeth!). New AMX badges were added on the quarter panels and spoiler. Car also has a tilt steering wheel, everything works as it should but the backup light, we never installed a switch when we put in the T-10. An Amark battery topper sits on a maintenance free battery to give it an original look. Duel snorkle aircleaner is not original, a fabricated one but very professional and looks great, the original single snorkle air cleaner is also included. Custom fill panel between grill and radiator support has been added to cover that huge gap the Javelin's have in the front. The only flaws with this car are minor and I will list them here: Passenger inside door panel had 2 extra screw holes in it that have been fixed but fixes can be seen if you look hard enough. The turned dash insert on that panel has 3 tiny screw holes drilled in for some reasons, funny, I had not noticed those for the 4 years I have owned the car until I took the pictures for this sale. Dash turned insert has a few scratches as does the driver door insert. Turtle back seats have a few scratches as well. There is a tiny nick on the passenger side top fender (see picture), the size of a pen tip. Wheel well moldings while nice could use a professional polishing. I say this because I just had a Nash Metropolitan’s stainless pieces done when my chrome work was being done also and they turned those stainless pieces into what look like chrome plating, so now all of my stainless pieces will always go to a pro to have done. That is what I would do with these wheel well moldings and rocker moldings if I were to keep the car. The driver side wheel well molding has a cut in it to bend it to fit the curve of the quarter panel. I suspect when body work was done 16 years ago the quarter panel was slightly shaped different and that is why the molding does not fit right. An extra wheel well molding will be included with the car and you can have someone who knows how to bend the metal make it fit the wheel well. When I bought the car I was told some restoration had been done back in 1994 and some patch panels have been used, but all metal. Must have been good work because all is well in 2011. There is a small dent in the undercarriage on the passenger side floor foot area where I lowered the car at one time on a jack stand I did not pull out all the way, car does have undercoating by the way. Tach reads a bit high, either needs calibration or the voltage regulator on the dash circuit board needs replacing, I suspect that as the other gauges read a bit low (I do have what was told to me was a perfect working tach ready to install if needed and that will also go with the car). I have a new plug in regulator for that circuit board but have not installed it as the dash has to come apart and that is a lot of work. I did pick up a tach that I was told worked perfectly but have not installed it but it also goes with the car. Wipers work but are slow, think maybe when I put them back together I did something wrong? They park fine, just slow, but I have never driven it in the rain so I have not done anything about it. Not sure if cabin is getting heat, may be the heater valve, when I did some interior work I put in a new heater core but either the heater valve is no opening or the control cable is 1" short and needs adjusting, again I don't drive it in the cold weather. I do have 2 addtional heater valves (which are a very rare item by themselves) that go with the car, again just have not replaced them due to not caring about it. Car will come with any spare parts I have, like the spindles for a disc brake conversion I had someone get for me out of a later model AMC car. A TSM manual, its car cover and a few other small parts I have for the car. This car is turn key, needs nothing but a new owner to cherish it. I encourage where possible for you to come see the car before buying it. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have or any specific pictures you need. Shipping, will of course, be the responsibility of the buyer. I can deliver it up to 500 miles from the Atlanta, GA area. Deposit of $500 due within 24 hours of sale, full payment with 7 days. Car has clear title in hand but will not move until your certified check has cleared. And again, please if possible stop by and see this car in person. On Apr-06-11 at 11:58:52 PDT, seller added the following information: Forgot to mention in 2010 I installed new door handles, outside and in and 4 new window cranks. New ball joints, upper and lower were also installed last fall. On Apr-09-11 at 13:07:18 PDT, seller added the following information: Someone just asked, I could not respond via ebay, about the door tag--yes it is there and reads: Body: 096055 Model: 7279-8 Trim: 261S Paint: D7 W095813 I would imagine the door tag is orginal, the rivets are not round but what I think is called rosset (?) On Apr-09-11 at 14:15:51 PDT, seller added the following information: Slide show now has door tag pictures on it: http://s1220.photobucket.com/albums/dd458/javvy4sale/?albumview=slideshow
