If you're a Vega enthusiast and searching for one of these seventies classics, then this little gem with 27,000 documented, original miles deserves your consideration. This 35 years young Vega hatchback is in exceptional condition as evidenced by the ample photographs. This car is totally original and unmolested and everything, whether mechanical or electrical, works as advertised, including the electric clock. The body is solid, clean and virtually cancer/corrosion free. It's 4 cyl., 140 cu" OHC engine that runs like a dynamo and the 3 speed automatic shifts and performs as if it was new. You can reasonably expect to get around 25 mpg in stop and go driving and 30 to 33 on the highway at speeds of 55 to 70 mph. This Vega has spent its entire life here in rural Pennsylvania. The original owner was a school teacher who purchased it as a leftover in 1977 and put only 19,300 miles on it. Upon her retirement in 1995 she intended to move Florida and because the car does not have air conditioning it was sold to a neighbor. This second owner had the car repainted, including the engine compartment, and only drove it occasionally. It mostly sat garaged for the next eleven years until my family purchased it in February of 2006. At that time the odometer had 20,740 miles. We have used the car these last 5 years as a limited daily driver around town, occasionally to work, and to car shows in central Pennsylvania. The original A78-13 tires were replaced with new Firestone premium radials. At that time the car was aligned and new shocks were installed as well as a muffler and catalytic convertor. The master cylinder has been replaced as well as both u-joints at the driveshaft. We also performed a MAJOR tune-up on the car when first purchased. We replaced all the filters, dist cap, wires, plugs, pcv, radiator cap, new coolant and flush. In addition, the electric idle and choke pull-off solenoids on the carburetor have been replaced. The car also has a fresh NAPA battery and a new steering box that a mechanic friend had given to us. Although it did nothing to enhance the cars steering, it is nice to know this major steering component is brand new. Included also in the auction is an array of spare parts as well as a collection of manuals and Vega related literature. The vehicle's mechanic is available for reference too. This is one handsome, head turning Chevy Vega. You can drive it anywhere with complete peace of mind and it runs and rides as nice at 70 mph as it does at 35 mph.
