Lincoln’s taste for decadence is obvious through the exterior coachwork, drawing influences from the Cadillac Seville’s then-revolutionary ‘bustleback’ styling. Chrome is lavish and carries a shine and glimmer that is sure to impress you. There is no rust, pitting, or major blemishes on the brightwork save for a few small indentations on various spots of the chrome banding around the wheelwells; consider them beauty marks from a car that was, indeed, driven as intended by its manufacturer. Sheetmetal is as laser-straight as expected from a mid-80s luxury car and shows the craftsmanship of the time. There are no signs of bodywork, repaint, or frame-straightening otherwise signifying accident repair. All glass is clear and free from vision-impairing scratches or blemishes. Factory 15” aluminum alloy turbine-cast wheels come wrapped in a matching set of Goodyear whitewalls with excellent tread depth remaining; two of the four wheels are showing some signs of decay common among the delicate finish of these 25 year-old castings. Inside, prepare to be impressed by the plushness and overall condition of the cloth upholstery, headliner, rear parcel shelf, and carpeting, all of which are remarkably clean and free from age or damage. Even small bezels and garnishes that are typically broken, damaged, or missing with age are present and as clean as the day they left the showroom. Observe the condition of the seatbelt buckles, grab handle retainer covers, and even the small latches on the armrest-mounted ashtrays! Padded dash vinyls and covers are clean and similarly fresh as well. All blonde wood inlays are present and also in excellent condition; please note the wood bezel surrounding the driver’s door lock assembly is cracked. One of the pioneers in the early age of automotive electronics, Lincoln outfitted its flagship Continental with a thoroughly-modern digital instrument cluster with easy-to-read displays for speed, fuel level, and odometer. A centrally-mounted trip computer offers an extraordinary level of feedback, including estimate time to distance, average speed/economy calculators, and programmable alarm. All of this works perfectly as intended. We performed our routine safety/drivability inspection on this Lincoln as well as our road-ability test and found zero problems or deficiencies with the vehicle. This car runs and drives out smooth and with plenty of power and exhibits no abnormalities in steering feel, braking, suspension, handling, A/C, or general performance. Every electrical option – from the four-corner air suspension to the ambient lighting – works perfectly. The 4-speed automatic transmission shifts perfectly and silky-smooth. Tires are a matching set of blackwalls in excellent condition all around with 85%+ tread remaining and are wrapped around a set of mint alloys.
