Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my grandmother' MB 280 SL. It is a European Model with a VIN of WDB1070421A004258. Due to her age, and her inability to enjoy the car, i've offered to sell it for her. I really know very little of the history of this car, other than it was purchased from a local dealer in 2002. The car is currently in my possession and will be fairly easy for me to look at any specific items that may be of concern to you. The car has not been driven much in the past few years due to the health of my grandmother. however, it has always been garage kept, and with the help of a personal friend, who is very familiar with Mercedes cars, we have been able to wake it up from this period of non-use. The car is running and driving again, and seems to be stopping and starting as it should. It does hesitate a little on hard acceleration, but runs and cruises very smoothly. I have no doubt that the car needs to be driven and may benefit from a set of plugs and wires, and/or maybe a little fine tuning. The car was put on a lift and no signs of previous body damage or rust were observed. We've made an effort to show you detailed pictures of the bottom of the car and the trunk floor. Additional photos are available upon request. Some portions of the paint may be original, but it is hard for me to tell. The gaps and panel fit look very good. There is a spot on the hood where the clear coat has lifted, and should be repainted. The original seats and door panels look amazingly good for their age. The carpets are nice as well. The dark brown top is likely original, as it is the correct German canvas, unfortunately it is pretty brittle and torn in a few places. It would definitely be good to replace. The hard top and headliner is in good condition. There are also a couple relatively small cracks in the dash. The a/c is not blowing cold, and probably needs a recharge. 3 of the tires are hi-quality Pirelli 3000 Cinturato's, but one has been replaced with an off-brand. The spare is a Pirelli as well, but a much older one. The original first aid kit, tool kit and jack are present as well. There are a few trim items that the SL needs... mainly a new knob for the emergency brake release, and some rubber weather-stripping that should be replaced as well. The chrome star on the grill has since been re-attached, however it does have some dents upon closer inspection. Overall this is a very solid car, with a lot of potential for some top-down, enjoyable touring. Hopefully this description gives you a good sense as to the condition of the car. I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Good luck bidding!
