Vehicle Detail
1986 Honda XR600R - Excellent Original Condition I purchased this clean 1986 XR600R from the original Southern California owner last year. He was in his mid 50's and bought this Honda brand new on 02/03/87 from his local Honda dealer in the Palm Springs area. He actually assisted his brother, a mechanic for the dealership, in taking this bike out of the crate and performing the initial makeready. The bike was ridden on a regular basis for three years in the dry deserts of California and then carefully placed in storage. 21 years later through a tip from a motorcycle friend of mine, I was put in touch with the owner. I purchased this '86 XR600R along with an all original 1984 Honda VF1000F Interceptor which the owner had also purchased new. What a find, two excellent original well preserved Hondas still with the original owner. I have recently had both bikes serviced by a local shop and with many other projects demanding my time, I have decided to put this great, second year, XR600R up for sale. I am 60 years old and remember seeing these bikes in the Honda showrooms. While this bike is a great machine, I don't have the strength, height, or weight to easily handle this big thumper. Honda brought out their line of XR motorcycles in the 1970's. In their heyday, there were 10 different XR models. The XL models were designed as dual sport models and the XR models were focused for off-road performance. The XR lineup consisted of small 50cc models all the way up to the XR650R beast. Eventually Honda replaced the XR lineup with their current CRF series. The XR600R was initially sold in 1985. Sixteen years later in 2000, the last of the XR600R's hit the showrooms. It's single cylinder 4 stroke engine was an engineering marvel. It is a RFVC (Radial Four Valve Compression) engine and has 4 valves, two intake and two exhaust. It was feed through two carburetors and has two exhaust pipes flowing into one muffler. The engine is a dry sump design for more power and the frame carries part of the engine oil. The rear monoshock Prolink suspension has adjustments for preload, rebound and compression dampening. The front 43mm forks are adjustable for compression and rebound dampening. This bike has great suspension, very effective braking and a smooth shifting 5 speed transmission. Once you get the kick starting technique down, you will find it a joy to ride. The tires have been replaced quite some time ago. They still have plenty of tread but if you are going to do some serious off-road riding, a new set of tires would be recommended. The carburetors were cleaned in December, 2010 and a basic service was performed. The actual mileage is unknown. The factory digital display panel still works properly. In it's day, this bike was king of the Baja races. It won many races in the hands of Johnny Campbell and Scott Summers. Here's your chance to own and ride a great looking vintage off-road Honda or simply display it as part of your collection. The title is still in the original owner's name, the tool kit is included along with the factory owner's manual. If you have questions, send me an email or give me a call at (480) 201-9049. Good luck with your bidding.
