Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Well maintained and documented 1978 280Z with original window sticker and 144,275 miles. The original owner kept all maintenance and repair receipts from 1978 to 2002. Most repairs after this are also documented. The car was originally sold in Tucson, AZ but moved across the south with the original owner (a major in the Air Force) spending time in Arizona, Louisiana, Florida, New Mexico, Alabama, Virginia, Texas, and Mississippi. I also have the original owner’s manual and the warranty and service booklet. This car has always run great for me and I would be comfortable taking it on a road trip. The only modifications done to the car are a complete polyurethane bushing kit, aftermarket radio and removable speakers, muffler, full dash cap, 240Z bumpers, air dam, and front turn signals. The Z has always started right up for me on the first try even after sitting in storage for a month and it always drives great. The paint and interior are in great condition with only a few minor flaws as described later. Even much newer cars with vinyl interior show wear, cracks, tears, and fading but the seats and door panels in this car are in excellent condition for their age. All of the carpet and floor mats are also intact and in very good condition. Air conditioning and heat both work great and make the car much more comfortable to drive any time of the year. All of the gauges work except the clock and there is plenty of tread left on the tires. There are some minor issues with the car as with most cars of this age but none of them have a noticeable effect on how the car drives. The rear bumper has a dent on the passenger side and the bumper rubber is in bad condition. The dash cap is slightly warped near the center on the windshield side. There are a few small rust spots and some bubbling in the paint that I’ve included in the pictures. The parking brake boot is torn and the chrome trim around the handle at the top of the driver side armrest falls down while driving. I noticed some brake squeal after taking the car on a few longer drives but this only happened occasionally. The fuel tank has some rust in it, which is a fairly common problem for a 280Z. I’ve installed a fuel filter before the fuel pump to ensure that the fuel pump is able to operate safely until this problem is fixed. I just replaced this filter so hopefully most of the rust has already been filtered out. The best way to fix this is to have the fuel tank removed, cleaned, and sealed. The headlight switch has worked well the majority of the time but there was one drive that I went on where headlights went out intermittently and I would have to cycle the switch a couple times to get them to come back on. The rear muffler hanger is not aligned properly. After storing the car for a month, I noticed a 2” circle of oil on the concrete underneath the car. I have listed every issue that I’ve noticed while driving this car over the last year so there will be no surprises when picking up the car. I did not detail the car before taking pictures. I just gave it a good wash and wiped down the interior so it will look better after a fresh detail. I have never had this car tested for emissions so I do not know if it would pass; however, all of the original emissions equipment is installed. I haven't been able to fix the door locks. The key works fine in the ignition and the hatch lock but it doesn't unlock the doors directly. I have been getting into the car by unlocking the hatch and reaching inside to unlock a door from the inside. This is a great driver and I’ve only put 353 miles on it since buying it in March 2010 and I just started a new job that I will only be home once a month for so I will be driving it even less. I would like to see this car go to someone who is going to drive it more often. I am located in Loveland, CO and the 280Z has been in storage since I moved here. I am willing to help with delivery or shipping of the car. Please contact me to set up a time to come see the car. Any day of the week during the day or evening is fine for me.
