Vehicle Detail

The first picture of this Cadillac as it looked prior to restoration to show the condition of the car before any work was done. I spent over $7,500 on the interior and exterior of the car another $4,000+ on having new seals and hoses put on the engine. As you can see there is a rust spot were the water from the air-conditioner dropped onto the base of the car in front of the driver’s seat. There was also some rust starting to form on the front fenders. What you cannot see is all the door dings along the sides of the car from being in parking lots or the scratches my 4 children made getting their bicycles out of the garage. Since this car was my father’s pride and joy I could not leave it looking like this and touch up painting would not match the original colour so the car was restored to the original colour. I did not have any painting in or around the engine to keep it the way it looked when I got the car because I still wanted it to look the way it did for my father. It was not necessary to paint the area around were the doors closed since that area showed no signs of wear or paint fading. When I had the car restored I was going to keep it as long as I lived because it was a special gift from my father to me for caring for him in his old age. The reason I have changed my mind about keeping the car is because of my disability making it hard to get in and out off it. I drive a 2005 Equinox so getting in and out is not a problem. The other reason is because I am not mechanical inclined and just trying to put back on a chrome strip is extremely frustrating and with its age little things a mechanic would fine simple for me is a big problem. The car runs extremely well for a car that is 48 years old. I cannot say it runs like it did when it was new because I was a child and could not drive. You may have trouble starting the car if you just let it sit for weeks at a time. To start it after sitting I pour some gasoline into the carburetor and the car starts right up so that is not a real problem. All 4 electric windows work as well as the headlights and brake lights. The brakes should be in go shape but should be checked. I still have the original car keys that came with the car. I was a child in grade school when my mother bought this car for my father for a Father's Day present, so I cannot tell you a lot about the car in the beginning. Dad was born in 1892 and he would have been 70 when he got the car or older if it was used. I know the car has never been in an accident except that shows up in these pictures because a truck (only thing that could have hit it that high) backed into the car when it was in a parking lot. To keep them safe my mother order seat belts from the factory be installed for her and my father in the front seat only. My father kept the car in a heated garage and never drove the car in the ice and snow unless there was an emergency. The car stayed in the garage out of the sunlight. The car remained idle so much that the clock would run down the battery. (However, the clock no longer works.) To prevent that, he bought a battery charger to keep the car running. When the car was dusty and it was raining outside, dad would back the car out onto the driveway to rinse the dust off and then bring it in. We used a chamois to dry it off. When my mother died in 1972, I had to come home from school and play "Mr. Mom" since dad knew nothing about fixing a meal or cleaning the house. In 1983 when he passed away, I got the car thru a "Deed of Gift" from dad for, “the sum of love and affection.” The car has been in my possession since my father’s death. Over the years I had the engine gaskets replaced; the radiator was replaced a few years ago; the air-conditioner serviced (it needs Freon); the car interior redone with the original fabric at $125.00/yard because of dry rot to the fabric; had the car repainted because the colour had faded; and replaced the tires when they dry rotted. All the hoses and most of the electrical wiring around the engine were replaced when I had the car service. The starter was just rebuilt recently. The car was restored over several years around the year 2000. (There are two extra matching wheels in my attic that have dad's original snow tires still mounted on them that go with the car.) There are some minor rust spots showing up on the car even though it has been in the garage. Also, the carpet panel in front of the driver’s side door will need to be fixed because I have kicked it getting in and out of the car because of my disability. The odometer stopped working so the car only shows 89,000+ miles on it which is probably only about 4 or 5,000 miles off the actual mileage. I also keep the car in the garage and only drive it on nice days and in bad weather only in an emergency like my father. Everything except what I mentioned above is all original. The original blue rubber floor pads are in the trunk and they have a light blue Cadillac emblem on them. As you can see in the pictures, the front passenger side has been damaged. There are some chrome pieces missing but they are in the car. I am disabled and cannot put them on. Also, I am not a mechanic so I would not know how to put fix it. The latch piece for the glove compartment that keeps it closed needs to be replaced. After a former friend helped me with the car, the dash lights no longer work; the CD/radio (see picture) needs to be put back in (the car has a stereo system without damaging the original car). The radio does not work and some parts need to be put back on the dash board because of my former friend’s “assistance”. The trunk lining is there and would need to be fixed or replaced. The trunk is sprung but still closes. The original car jack is there but does not work, so I have one on 4 wheels that you pump to raise the car. The electric front seat does not work. The door gasket on the driver’s door is loose. An original shop manual and a copy goes with the car, the copy is shown on the back seat of the car. This 1962 Cadillac is the rarest of Sedans produced in 1962, one of 13,000+ "Six-window" Sedans produced. I was told when I wanted to buy a model of the car that it was the largest and heaviest car made any where in the world in 1962 for single family use. This gorgeous luxury car starts, runs, and drives just like 1962! The 390-325HP V-8 moves the car down the road without any effort. The tires have dry rotted again so they will need to be replaced. My father had the carburetor rebuilt so the car could run on regular gas when they took Ethel off the market. I always still use a lead additive every time I fill up. The last 4 pictures are of the underside of the car that I could take showing the undercoating put on the car when it was new is still mostly on the car since it was rarely driven in bad weather and kept in a heated garage. Thank you for looking and hopefully bidding. This car is being sold so we can bring the home up to State standards because we want to adopt some children to keep me company since I have been stuck at home since 2001 because of my disability. The State requires smoke and carbon dioxide detectors in each bedroom which is not cheap. Fireplace inspection, stop a roof leak, etc. (It is hard to believe we raised 4 children here without a problem.) We also need money because we feel we need to replace some water faucets, mattresses, hire some one to help me clean the house while my wife is at work and put a fresh coat of paint on the bedrooms. We also need cash in the bank to show we can support the children and be able to buy them clothing they may need when they arrive. Doing this will give me a purpose for my life and give some great kids a nice home with a father available 24 hours a day. This is especially important since most of the kids need a strong father image to work with them which is what I was to our own children. I am 61 years old and my wife 55 and we are in excellent health so we show live long enough to raise any adopted children.
