Vehicle Detail

1979 Honda cbx. Silver and black 7500 miles. I have owned it since 8 01 1988 and bought it with around 3000 miles on it, and I just haven’t ridden it much in the last 2-3 years maybe 150 mi total. It is all original except rear tire and handle grips. Brakes have been replaced with hi performance pads but not ridden since. That’s it, it’s an unmolested example of one of the truly unique motorcycles that looks like a motorcycle should. I never trusted a bike I couldn’t see thru unless I was road racing it. Tail section has that usual crack in it from my 8 to 10 yr old son pushing/sitting on it when he didn’t understand they are fairly fragile but doesn’t look all that bad. One very small stone chip in tank front left side, scratches on frt fender there is also some rust at muffler collars but it’s been that way for 10 + years now and not gotten any worse that I have seen, also a piece of chrome on the left side of the seat is broken/missing it’s been that way since I’ve had it. Everything is shown in pics. Always kept in climate controlled garage and carbs run dry when done riding for the season oil changed every year or two depending on how far I rode it that year, and almost never parked on the side stand for more than a hour or two. It has almost never been parked or sat in the sun for more than a few hours at a time It rode great as always last time I was out on it last august for our Woodward dream cruise and still surprises me of how quick it is for a big motorcycle, but we have a lot of snow on the ground so it’s just staying inside. I have always just started it up and ridden it every year since 1988. I have never had to do anything but change oil, fill the gas and replace battery every few years, and I think I have adjusted the chain twice. It doesn’t have a battery now; I used a RD battery to ride it for 40-50 miles last summer just didn’t want to spend the money for only a few days. I haven’t started it up as I don’t have one good battery, but it ALWAYS has and see no reason it won’t as it has for the past 22 years. It’s a fall of 78 manafacture bike, 4 digit serial number 6033 so it’s an early one. This is a nice specimen for a being a rider, it has not been cleaned up much as it never has been very dirty and I probably should have done more but it always has looked good and I never thought of it as anything but a neat motorcycle instead of a investment thus a light wash and heavy wipe and a few waxes is all it has ever had. Very few wrenches if any have ever been put on much of anything to speak of. It will clean up very nice when/if detailed and will look excellent for a 30+ year old bike that’s been ridden. It’s not a perfect garage queen but a Very solid/decent example of the classic sport bike with few issues to deal with, there should be few if any surprises here. But do remember EVERYTHING is Factory original except the rear tire and handle grips oh and brake pads. Thanks Buyer handles all shipping arraignments but I will help when they get here as I have done before for your pickup. Pay pal deposit of $200 required within 2 days and bank transfer within three more or cash when picked up. No warrantee is given but its a honda and that is the warraty I think. I am selling this because I need the space yesterday so I undersatnd it takes a bit to get a shipper but time is of the essence, so I wont wait a month. If you cant get it done fairly quickly dont bid please. I think I put a fair start and BIN price with no reserve so good luck and thanks. Gary It has been pointed out that I have a reserve on this bike by putting this price on it. There is no reserve just the minium bid or opening bid. The opening bid is also the winning bid if you are the only one. Hope this clears up any confusion as I got a question stating my 57 was a reserve. I hate reserves,,,, when you bid for a week then find out you didnt bid enough.or you get 50 prople asking what your reserve is. This way you know if you bid you WILL buy if you are high bidder seems pretty stright foreward to me.On Feb-27-11 at 16:41:49 PST, seller added the following information: I just got it out of the back of the garage and jumped it . I ran up oil pressure as always before startintg. Then I started it as I have now for the past 23 springs. I will admit that after starting it I didnt want to rev it alot seeing it was in a garage and I didnt have a fan to cool it. I started to think, and realized that the plugs are also 33 years old and there is a bit of a miss, all 6 pipes were the same temp so I dont think its carbureation or anything other than as I said plugs. I guess 33 years is long enough for a service life HUH?. I didnt rev it over 3-4000 and I thought about it but didnt run it up to clean it out, after a just few minutes it srarted to idle down but wasnt perfect and also a bit low, it said 1000 or so but still seemed low as it was just staying runnig but still idled anyhow. But as memory serves it took a few miles to run the cobwebs out of it and was fine after 5-10 minutes or so. But still that being said I think it might be time for a set of plugs is all I can think of, the air filter is also original I believe and only thought of that as I took the cover off to hook up the cables. It ran nice but I am sure you will find things that you think you might have to do to it. It is 321/2 years old and had almost nothing done to it. other than above mentioned. I only have 111 miles on the trip odo and believe that was the last 2 years of riding. A few people were to stop by and look at it but never called or showed but in all fairness I didnt know I could get it done untill yesterday. feel free to ask questions and for the guy that asked about the tool kit with pressure gauge. It looked like the tool kit had never been out but there is no pressure gauge. I am not sure how you would fit anything else in there as I reconfigured the tool kit 3 times to get it back in right. Also the handle grip is slipping on the throttle and I had to hold it tight , so you will have to put new ones on I guess. Also its a 6-78 manufactuer date of the steering head plate. Thanks for ALL the inquries and good luck. Gary
