Vehicle Detail
On April 21st 1967 Keith Penland of marietta GA picked up his shiny new mountain green RS SS camaro from Anderson Motor Company . He ordered it with the SS 350 option, power steering, powerglide transmission, rally sport package, push button radio, tinted windshield, wheel covers and a console for a grand total of $3490.76. Keith paid the car off from the national bank of georgia on may 12th 1969 and there is the original pay off slip with the car. The original sales order and window sticker carbon copies are with the car also, we suspect the originals were kept by the family. The original brouchure, keys protecto-plate and plastic envolope are with the car as well. The original family sold it to another GA resident in 2001 and sold it to my father in early 2006. When my father aquired it it was still wearing original faded paint and was as dry underneath as an old car comes. A body on restoration was started in spring of 2006. The car was stripped to bare metal and some rear wheel lip rust was uncovered when removing the moldings. New quarter skins were put on rather than a piece together repair. The seams are high and finished off to appear seamless from any angle. No evidence of a repair as the original quarter jambs were left intact. All the other panels are original to the car. Car was a pleasure to work on as care was taken to note all of the assembly line markings. What ever was discovered got put back on the car. This was not a case of just adding random marks like any other car. There was a date found on the frame rail. It is upside down as it must had been stamped when the frames moved along the plant. Suspension parts and spindles were documented in pictures and replicated. The car has all new front suspension and A NOS set od old delco pleasurizers were found and give the car a nice ride with an old 60's touch. The eingine was taken out and it was decided even with 135,000 miles the car did not need a full teardown and rebuild. The car didn't leak, tick, smoke have valve seal issues like most chevy's. If it was rebuilt at one time we don't know. Original block markings were duplicated like the pictures show and were painted over just like the plant did. Motor was freshened up with an oil pump and gaskets where needed. Engine is the original #'s matching one. The MU coded block and the vin is clearly the one that matches the car. Carb is correct for car but not THE original one and was completely gone through. Power glide trans also original to car was re-gasketed, cleaned and painted. Transmission did not have an issue then or now. Rear end is the cars born with 3:31 open. A reproduction traction bar was added due to the original one being removed at some point. The brackets were there but the bar was gone. The car had perfect brake and fuel lines and just required some clean up and a flush through. Gas tank was removed for detailing also with a new sender. Trunk was 100% solid, no soft spots by shock mounts and an old astrostar redline still resides on the original rim. The car was restored to a high level using base clear and the stripes were laid out next to a 1967 factory photo rather than a stencil kit. The stripes are buried in the clear. Car was cut and buffed to a beautiful finish. Gardner Exhaust was chosen for the car as they are THE best out there for a correct fit and finish. I have used them on numerous cars and there is no better if one can afford it. Wide oval redlines were chosen as it compliments the green very well and added to a set of 14" rally's which technically the car didn't come with. I insited the car stay its original mountain green hue vs red like the majority of camaro's out there and my father agreed it was the right choice after hearing all the positive comments about the seldomely seen color. Car has original date coded glass and interior as as good as it was new. One flaw in the headliner the size of a pecil tip is the only problem. Dash has a few scratches on it near the glove box door. We decided to leave it alone as it is only original once and would take away from the originality. An aftermarket radio was installed some time ago and rear speakers added, although not original it fits for the car and sounds good. All stainless trim was professionally buffed to a mirror finish and almost looks like chrome. Wing window chrome is blemish free. Car after 4 years looks like it was done yesterday and car has been driven SPARINGLY to car shows. I would guess about 700 miles have been put on it since the restoration. Dad is meticulous and always said the car is almost too nice to drive. The only things we are aware that don't work on the car is the fuel guage. Stopped working shortly after car was done. Not sure if it's the actual guage or the new sender. As little as it's driven he just records the mileage. One headlight door does not open, there is a new motor that goes with it. It has to be opened manually other wise the car drives off at night winking. Other than that the car is as nice as they come (we feel) and can be driven to be enjoyed or would look great in any collection. No expense was spared!!! He is not looking for any trades and the only reason for selling is to help out with a new project that is underway. Please look at the below link as there are nearly 200 pictures of the car before during resto and present day. Take the time to look them over as there is nothing to hide and that is why so many were taken. It's hard enough to buy a car sight unseen and we've done it enough to know that our opinion on what's nice 99.9% of the time is NOT. So feel confident in this car as I have gone to great lengths to bring this car up to a high standard and present it as such. Car sold as is where is. I am listing this on behalf of my dad and he will welcome all questions and inspections prior to winning bid, please do your home work before buying, we did. If someone is serious his name is Bob and can be reached at 414-303-5316. Car is in milwaukee county 30 miles north of the IL border. (90 miles N of chicago) Thanks for looking. http://s125.photobucket.com/albums/p45/jstrits/
