1956 Thunderbird - Black Plate Calif. Car - Barn Find! No Reserve! Well maybe not an actual barn find but a desert garage find, here in the Scottsdale, Arizona area, where it has been sitting for 33+ years! It is a Black plate California car that has spent it's entire life in southern California and sunny Arizona! Here is the story: A gentleman in Fountain Hills, Arizona bought the car in the mid sixties when he lived in Newport Beach, California for his new wife at the time. They drove and enjoyed it until 1978 and then they moved to Arizona and never really used it much again. They stored it in their garage with the intention of restoring it some day, but recently came to the conclusion that they will never get it done, so their loss is your gain! It was last run and driven about 4 years ago and we have recently started it and driven it, but it will need some additional maintenance to make it roadworthy and trustworthy again. We believe that the 59,320 miles showing on the odometer are actual miles on the car! It still has it's California "Pink Slip" issued in May of 1969! Loaded with the following options:: -312 cu in 225 hp V8 Engine -Automatic Transmission w/Floor Shifter -Power Steering -Power Brakes -Power Windows -Power Seat -Accessory Wire Wheel Hubcaps -Hardtop -Engine Dress-up Kit -Fender Skirts -Wide White Wall Tires Odometer Reading: 59,320 (Believed to be original) VIN Number: P6FH241754 As you can see in my photos, this is still an impressive looking Classic Thunderbird! The body is 99.9% rust free and is really as rock solid as you would expect California or Arizona car to be! In the interest of full disclosure, I will mention that it has some small dings and dents and there are a couple small blisters under the paint; mainly on the rear corner of the rocker panel and a few pin holes in the corner of one door and the corners of the deck lid; but nothing major and these few tiny spots should in no way affect the value of this otherwise rock solid T-Bird! The body is actually in very nice condition otherwise and would make a very easy and straight forward restoration for anyone, even a novice! There are no signs of any prior accident history. The underside is untouched original and is rock solid as I have shown in several photos. Originally, this was a Fiesta Red car with Red and White interior and even though the Raven Black color looks great, it should probably be painted it's original color again and it does need and deserve a new paint job. The chrome, for the most part, is still in fair, driver quality condition and would easily be rechromed if you want a 100 point show car. This is a hard top only car and the top is in excellent condition! The interior is very complete and needs a new upholstery kit installed. The gauges are clean and appear to be in good shape. Most of the gauges work and I believe that it will not take much to bring everything back to life. The radio buzzes like it wants to work and the running lights and courtesy lights all work great! We did get it running again without too much trouble and the engine sounds great! It has a few oil leaks that may well seal up again once it is driven for awhile. The gas tank should be dropped and cleaned to assure that there will be no future problems. The brake master cylinder was empty, but it did pump up with fluid added and we were able to bleed the system so it can be driven.. A lot of the gauges come to life with the ignition on. It will definitely need new belts and hoses as well as a tune up. The tires are decent but older tires and the exhaust is relatively quiet. The transmission seems to be in good shape and shifts as it should. Please keep in mind that there may be some unknown maintenance involved due to its' age and length of time in storage. I believe that it is basically a sound car mechanically and that it was not parked for any mechanical reason, but rather a lack of interest on the prior owner's part. The car definitely deserves to be totally restored, but it wouldn't take much to make it a fun, driver quality car either! The early two passenger Thunderbird is truly one of the most iconic and recognizable of all the 50's cars of the period and there are few cars that compare! These are some of the fastest appreciating and most sought after collector cars in the market today and this is a nice, easily restorable example of a classic American sports car!
