Vehicle Detail
This is a 1969 S2 Lotus Europa. I bought it as a project with intent to restore, but sometimes things don't work out the way you plan them. My loss, your gain. The engine and transmission are intact and in the car, though not running. The car has most of the parts, but honestly many are in boxes and since I didn't begin the project, I'm not sure what is missing. The body is nearly complete- it was done by a professional restoration shop and has utilized a fiber reinforced bonding primer- a little sanding, and it is ready for paint. I do not have the seats or the windshield. Sale includes the basket-weave mag wheels. The car is a project that will need to be trailered and is being sold with a bill of sale only- nothing further is required in GA. This car needs some lovin that I can't give her. Please save this car! The car is located in 31721, but I travel frequently throughout the Southeast, and may be able to assist in delivery. On Feb-09-11 at 06:25:23 PST, seller added the following information: 2/9 edit: I put a low starting bid in the hopes of encouraging people to bid. I am concerned that it is communicating the wrong impression of the car, and I've had a lot of questions about my reserve price. The reserve is set at $1600. I won't take less than that or consider offers- I've got a lot more than that in this car, and I could make quite a bit more by parting it out. The market value is higher, so I hope it is a starting point that you consider to be fair. But it is your opportunity to get a good restoration project candidate at a very low price. Please enjoy, and happy bidding! On Feb-09-11 at 10:07:00 PST, seller added the following information: 2/9 edit: I have added some pictures of the front radiator, fan area, as well as a couple that focus on the intake and exhaust. I have the headlights, tailights, and turn signal lights. I do not the fiberglass rear bin/trunk. I have one from another car which I will be making molds of to build new ones and offering them on Ebay in the future. On Feb-09-11 at 10:15:52 PST, seller added the following information: 2/9 edit: I should have mentioned, the doors include the glass, hardware, window frames, regulators, interior handles, latches, and locks. They are missing the electric motors, and appear to be missing one exterior handle (though it may be in the boxes). On Feb-11-11 at 05:59:51 PST, seller added the following information: 2/11 edit: I've been asked about a few things I thought I would add to the listing for everyone to see easier. Does the body have any soft spots? The body does not have any soft spots that I noted. It was prepped by a professional restoration shop that specializes in the restoration of classic fiberglass cars. They started it for resale, but decided to sell it unfinished. So, the body is in very good condition- they were almost ready for paint. Is there any rust on the chassis? I have not been under the car, so this is a little difficult to answer with certainty, as the only steel chassis member is the beam down the middle of the car. I have looked at the parts of the chassis in the engine bay and through the access panel in the front and it appears that the chassis has a lot of superficial surface rust, but I did not see any rot. Do you have all the hinges? I have the rear deck hinges. The front bonnet hinges are essentially bolts, so those should not be a problem. I am not sure about the door hinges. One of the doors has the hinge on it, the other may be in a box. It is an unusual hinge arrangement (like a threaded rod in a tube), so I am not sure how many pieces are involved. I had intended to fabricate new adjustable ones. Correction: I previously noted 1 exterior door handle was missing. I found it! On Feb-12-11 at 12:35:46 PST, seller added the following information: 2:12 edit: I noticed today that the steering wheel is broken. It's visible in the pics, but you'd have to be good at zooming. The fuel tank is rusted out, and I have both interior door panels (although a full restoration would warrant re-doing them). As noted in the responses, I also verified today that the motor does spin freely with a wrench on the crankshaft pulley, and the transmission appears to also shift freely, although the linkage is worn. On Feb-13-11 at 19:34:50 PST, seller added the following information: 2/13 edit: I know everyone would love to know more history on this car, and believe me, I would too. I just don't have much. I have owned it for about a year, and I did not do any work to it at all. I am ashamed to admit it is in exactly the condition I bought it in. The only history prior to that I am familiar with is where I bought it. The shop working on this had in excess of 50 cars in various stages of restoration, mostly vintage fiberglass classics and racers. Many were being restored for European buyers. They only had a few employees. I assumed this project was sold to generate some cash flow while they focused on some of the rarer more profitable projects they had underway. I suspect this car has been in project form for a pretty long time. It is a complete restoration project, that will require a great deal of effort as complete restorations always do. The good news on this is that a lot of the hard bodywork is complete. This is a project that would be great for someone prepared to give it a lot of energy and love. If you are looking for a quick fixer-upper, this is not the car for you. Please don't buy it. But if you are a person who is passionate about these cars, knows what they can be worth, is prepared for a lot of effort, and loves the idea of bringing one more lovely unicorn back to life, this is your car.
