The Mercedes-Benz CL-Class is that rare animal in the automotive kingdom, a large luxury coupe capable of accommodating two rear passengers in comfort while simultaneously shoving them into their seatbacks with abundant power. Other two-doors tend to offer either opulence or power, but the CL manages both and features a sumptuous leather-adorned interior to boot. The CL has undergone a few name changes over the years, but it has maintained its status as perhaps the quintessential large luxury coupe. The CL has essentially been a two-door version of the Mercedes-Benz flagship sedan -- today's S-Class. Although the CL now ventures a little farther from the mother-ship in terms of styling, it has retained its close family ties. As in the past, the two vehicles share similar interior design, features and engine options. Since it's based on such a large sedan, the CL is more of an autobahn-storming, boulevard-cruising luxury coupe, rather than a road-carving GT. The 2000 Mercedes-Benz CL500 is the third-generation CL-Class. It is lighter, less expensive and much sleeker than its massive, brick-shaped predecessor. It’s amply provided by an aluminum block, single overhead camshaft V8 engine that displaces 5.0 litres and develops 302 horsepower at 5600 rpm. Mated to Mercedes’ Touch Shift five-speed tiptronic transmission, it’ll take this flagship coupe from zero to 60m/h in about six and a half seconds. The car has vented four-wheel disc ABS brakes, of course. It is, by anyone’s measure, a splendid automobile, with superb road-handling ability and far above average performance. It is also one of the most elegantly styled cars on the road. Among other things, it comes with a GPS system, ventilated power seats with memory, Bi-Xenon headlights, side impact airbags, dual zone automatic climate control, and a stability control system that eliminates body roll. Mercedes used the CL to showcase its latest technologies such as Active Body Control (ABC) and Distronic adaptive cruise control. The new ABC system basically eliminates body roll during cornering, braking, and accelerating. As well as giving the car a wonderful ride, it also allows you to fling it around as though it were a sports car. There aren’t many cars of this size and class that have the same combination of lightness of feel and comfort. This particular CL500 is in great shape. Just look at the pictures and judge for yourself. The vehicle is mechanically sound and the interior looks nice. The engine sounds great, it handles and drives superbly and has no problem developing high speeds. Car runs straight as an arrow and tires do not pull in any direction. The car can be exported, transferred and registered in any state.
