Vehicle Detail
This is a very rare 1980 Scout Diesel. 4 speed transmission, 4 wheel drive, removable Bimini top, custom made. The interior is marine-grade vinyl for outdoor exposure with custom-matched piping that matches the exterior color. This is a Southern California car so the rust is minimal, just some basic spotting at the wheel wells and at the top of the windshield. There is no hard-top, although they are easily found on eBay. The Scout drives like a dream and gets 24 mpg. This vehicle is as much fun on-road as it is off-road. The 4WD works fine and can climb up anything. The Scout is by no means a drag racer, but life is fun in the slow lane and this car gets compliments everywhere it goes, especially at the beach. The engine and drivetrain have been professionally maintained, I am the second owner. There is a new Interstate battery, brakes, clutch and throttle assembly. I just drove it 4 hours to San Diego last month and had a blast. All guages and controls work, but don't expect much from the heater. I don't know if it really works or not, I just wear a jacket. Ditto the windshield wipers as it never rains here. Both of these features were poorly designed by International so they do technically activate, but they are such a joke it's better to create your own solutions. Starting it is a breeze and I have posted a video on YouTube so you can see it from a cold start and hear the purr of the mighty diesel. Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ParCaBr14zE The roll bar and Bimini top were custom made at a fabrication shop here in Santa Barbara. The roll bar is powder coated black so it never needs painting. I also installed lap belts front and rear. Parts are readily available for this vehicle on Scout websites and through Nissan, which manufactured the engine for International Harvester. I hate to part with the old girl, but it is time to move and reduce the size of the fleet, so to speak. Local pickup or drop-off can be arranged, as well as transport to anywhere in the US or overseas. A $500 good-faith deposit via paypal is required within 24 hours of winning the auction.
