Vehicle Detail

1948 Cadillac Fleetwood 60 Special Four Door SedanStylistically significant, the car to be listed in the Milestone Car SocietyFirst tail fin"Jukebox" instrumentation cluster First new post-war style for CadillacLong wheel base 133"Cadillac flathead V8radio with rear seat speaker 4 speed Hydramatic transmissionHydroelectric windows and seatdocumented 32,900 miles The engine and transmission in this car were perfected to a high degree of dependability during WWII when Cadillac used them in tanks. The 60 Special model is distinguished from the shorter wheelbase 61 and 62 models in that it has a longer rear deck and different chrome treatment on the sides. This is an impressive luxury car in terms of styling and performance. I bought this car in March of 1997 with 24200 miles on the odometer. This appears to be correct according to the documentation that I have. The car has a sticker for the Toledo Club on the windshield and an earlier title showing the car was sold at a sheriff's sale in Toledo in 1979 showing 21600 miles. The previous owner bought it in the early 1990s from a Cadillac dealer in Springfield, MO. This is a well maintained, low-mileage car that has never been restored. I have put about 9,000 miles on it since I bought it so I know its condition very well. The car is very tight, quiet, rattle free, reliable and handles well. The car was bead blasted to bare metal and painted the original color in 1997. The paint is shiny and fully intact although not perfect.. The body and floors are solid and there is no rust out anywhere. Chrome was redone at the same time as the car was painted. It is bright and shiny and in very good condition. The rubber weather stripping was replaced and new tires put on the car in 1997. The upholstery was redone using original pattern wool Bedford cloth and broadcloth. The front carpet was replaced last year and the rear carpet is original. The trunk has been newly redone using original pattern material. The headliner and door panels are original and free from tears. The engine compartment is original as is the underside of the car. The wipers, power windows, power seat, gauges and lights work and it is a 6 V system. The radio needs a new vibrator. Overall the car is in very good condition (I would rate it between 2 and 3) and retains its patina of originality. Please contact me for more information if interested. Tom 913-302-0518
