Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is our 1973 Corvette big block. This is a mostly matching numbers car I am selling this as a project car that I think is a very good start for a restoration but is not roadworthy as it is. This car has most options available in 1973 including the working rear defogger. This car is very complete and is together. It can be driven onto a trailer or truck for transport. The body appears to be in very good condition. It has an older repaint and does need to be repainted. It is blue now but was originally silver. The body seams are all still visible and from the underside I see no signs of any prior damage. The front bumper in the picture is no longer on the car as it was deteriorating badly. The door handles and rear bumpers as well as most of the chrome could use rechroming. The weather strip is showing its age and should be replaced. There is a small rust bubble about 2 1/2 inches round on the drivers side door above the latch mechanism. The windshield frame and birdcage look good and I see no rust there. There were a few spots on the drivers side front fender that were peeling and that I have done some sanding on that the pictures do not show. But as I said it needs paint I just am trying to be as honest as i can. The engine runs good once warmed up but runs a bit rough when cold. I am sure a tune up would help this. It has 35 lbs of oil pressure at idle. It goes like hell when warmed up!! The transmission is a TH400 automatic and shifts nice and firm. The rear end is quiet but may need a u joint in a half shaft or drive shaft. Suspension feels good and there are no unusual noises. The steering is a bit loose and I think it may need a tie rod end or something. The power steering belt is loose and the brakes were low when I moved it into the garage last year. The interior is in very good condition for it's age and I do believe it to be all original The leather seats show well with minimal abrasions The dash has no cracks. The deluxe woodgrain inserts are weathered but easily replaced. The door panel on the drivers side has 4 small cracks which I included a picture of. Most of the venders have a repair panel to cover this area. You can also see the woodgrain in that photo. The passenger side door panel has no cracks. All instruments and gauges work except the clock. The radio has at some time been replaced with an aftermarket cassete player. The drivers side window works fine but the passenger side window does not. I expect the switch is bad. Engine and transmission are definitely original numbers. The rear end date code is April of 72. With the car being built Sept 6 1972 that falls within the right time frame. It does have the rear sway bar and the u joint caps (not u-bolts) that big blocks have so I do not think it has ever been replaced though it may have been worked on at some time in the past. There is a rust hole in the frame just ahead of the drivers side rear wheel. It is not in the trailing arm pocket but on the bottom of the frame rail itself. This is the only rust through that I have found but the trailing arms and rear suspension are scaly rust and some of the brackets riveted to the bottom will need replacement. The alternator, carburetor, air cleaner and valve covers are not original. The exhaust manifolds are not originals either. I think it may have had headers on it at some point. I am not sure what the exhaust manifolds are off but they are not corvette To the best of my knowledge everything else is original to this car My wife and I purchased the car about 3 years ago. We have a clear title in our name. We were going to restore it but I do not see that happening anytime soon so we want to sell the car to someone who will. I am happy to see so much interest in our car. Please note that if you have questions please ask them before Sunday January 30th as I will not have computor access during the day so I will be unable to answer last minute questions. Also note that this is a project car and is not roadworthy as it is and is in need of restoration so if you are not up for that task please do not bid. Your bid is not an offer to look at this car it is a contract to purchase it. It is being sold with no warranty, guarantee or promises I have described the car as accurately as I can. On Jan-29-11 at 06:17:08 PST, seller added the following information:THIS IS A NO RESERVE AUCTION FIRST BID COULD WIN IT!!
