Vehicle Detail
1967 EL CAMINO. I BELIEVE THIS WAS REFERRED TO AS MARINE BLUE, NOT SURE. I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN IOWA ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO. IT STARTED LIFE AS A SIX (6) CYLINDER WITH A THREE SPEED ON THE COLUMN. IT HAD A 350 C.I. CHEVY MOTOR IN IT WHEN I PURCHASED IT. I HAD AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION INSTALLED, THE SELLER (MY NEIGHBOR) ADVISED ME IT WAS A TURBO-HYDRAMATIC 350 GM TRANS. I HAD DISC BRAKES INSTALLED IN THE FRONT, BECAUSE I DIDN'T CARE FOR THE BRAKE ABILITY WITH THE ORIGINAL DRUM STYLE BRAKES. THIS EL CAMINO HAS BEEN GARAGE STORED SINCE I PURCHASED IT, THE TIRES LOOK TO BE VERY NEW. THE PREVIOUS OWNER INSTALLED NEW FLOOR PANS IN THE VEHICLE. THE BED IS IN GREAT SHAPE, THE ENTIRE VEHICLE HAS VERY LITTLE RUST ANYWHERE, IT'S A CLEAN CAR, STARTS AND DRIVES WELL. THERE IS ONE SPOT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE HOOD THAT IS SHOWING SOME RUST STARTING, AND A SMALL RUST TYPE BUBBLE AT THE FUEL FILLER DOOR. THE INTERIOR IS VERY WELL PRESERVED, IT STILL NEEDS A RADIO, AND THE KNOBS FOR THE HEATER CONTROLS. I HAVE FOUND PARTS VERY EASY TO COME BY, I BUY THEM FROM "NPD" NATIONAL PARTS DEPOT, THEY SEEM TO HAVE EVERYTHING I NEED. OVER THE TIME I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR I USUALLY DROVE IT AROUND ON SUNDAYS, VISITING VARIOUS CAR SHOWS IN MY AREA. I'M NOT SURE ABOUT THE MILEAGE, I WOULD HAVE TO BELIEVE IT IS 140,000 ANYWAY. I WILL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE, LIKE I SAID THIS IS A NICE DRIVING CAR FOR IT'S AGE SOME 43-44 YEARS OLD. I HAVE CERTAINLY ENJOYED OWNING IT, AND HONESTLY I HATE TO SELL IT, I ALWAYS GET LOTS OF LOOKS AND COMPLIMENTS. IT'S NO TRAILER QUEEN, IT'S A DRIVER! SHIPPING: THE BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PICKING UP THE VEHICLE, AND ALL COSTS TO TRANSPORT, DELIVER, ETC. THANKS FOR LOOKING. HAVE A GREAT DAY! On Jan-29-11 at 14:23:38 PST, seller added the following information: I would like to add a couple details, this vehicle has headers and a dual exhaust, my son says they are flowmaster, however I just don't know. It has a 4-bbl 600cfm carb, I replaced the 780 because it was to much carb for the motor. When the car is at normal operating temperature and sits at an idle it sounds like there is a mild to medium cam in it. I find it rather humorous, it sounds like it's ready to rock, and it can't turn the tires over from a dead stop and flooring it! I have a 2007 silverado max (367 h.p.) that would beat the pants off this el camino, I didn't buy it because it was fast folks, I bought it because it was in such good shape, and all there. I have had more questions than I ever expected, therefore I spent the last 30 minutes or so crawling around under the car if you lay on your back on the floor of my garage with the doors open, you can look at the very bottom of the doors (with a trouble light) the passenger door has very light surface rust that would sand right off. The drivers door bottom has some rust towards the front of the door that is more deep, perhaps two inches long and 3/4" wide, which would require repair,if one was so inclined to stop any further damage. The two doors have different detail on the bottom side, please note this is the underside of the door that cannot be seen unless you lay down and open the door and investigate with a trouble light. All in all it is still surprising to me that this el camino is in such good shape for it's age. This el camino looks and sounds marvelous, to me it's just a sharp driver that is in darn good shape for it's age. I thank everyone for the questions, after examining the doors there isn't much left that I have not looked at. One person asked me about the frame, it is in very good shape, During the time I have owned this car, I had it on a hoist a few days, once to change the trans to an automatic, and once to try and figure out the gear ratio of the rear axle. Of course I looked it over and didn't notice any rust issues that gave me any concern.
