Vehicle Detail

1948 Chevy 5-Window Custom Rear Engine Truck 1948 "Unreel" Chevrolet 3100 5-window pick-up truck powered by a Big Block 1968 Oldsmobile 455 through a Turbo 400 Automatic. The drivetrain is located in the bed! Truck runs, drives and handles like a dream rolling down the road. Truck was professionally restored and built by a master fabricator in the late 80's through early 90's. The all steel body is extremely staright, rust free and is as clean underneath as it is on top. The truck has been in my family for the past 18 years. 1948 UnReel Chevy Truck Specifications: 1968 455 CID Oldsmobile (390hp/510 ft-lb torque) w/ less than 1500 miles on complete, professional rebuild. Factory heads, economy cam, twin Holley 500cfm carburetors make for a very strong, yet very streetable power plant. Turbo 400 3-speed Automatic transmission that shifts firm and smooth. Engine bay / truck bed is completely lined with custom fitted polished stainless steel panels. All panels are easily removable. 4-wheel independent suspension with Carrera coil over shocks allow low, yet adjustable ride height. Power disc brakes at all four corners with new (last summer) calipers, flex lines and master cylinder. The front suspension/ steering is from a '71 Toronado to match the rear and Olds power steering to complete the package. To get the appropriate weight distribution, 250 pounds of ballast was added to the cross brace behind the front bumper. This allows the truck to drive and handle the corners as smooth as silk. The extremely rare and unusual cast aluminum wheels were manufactured by Superior specifically for the Toronado. Concord P205/75R15 tires all around are like new. Ducting under the body and custom molded steel flaps at the front of the bed direct cool air to a large Chevy Pickup Camper Special radiator, where dual electric fans and a louvered front bed panel aid airflow. An additional radiator is located under the floor of the 'trunk' that is also outfitted with an electric fan. Truck runs at 185*F all day long in any temperature - had it out many times on 95*F days. The front radiator fan only needs to be utilized in stop and go traffic on very hot days - or in a hot summer parade. The smooth Porsche Guards Red body features frenched '51 Ford headlights and '50 Merc tailights w/ blue dots. Additional tail/brake lights are hidden in top bedrails. Shaved door handles necessitate hidden electric buttons located in the front of the top bed rails. Hidden master power switch maintains security. Custom built gravel gaurd fills the gap between the tailgate and rear bumper. Rare '53 Chevy truck chrome brush guard adds style to the front bumper. Chrome full length running boards. The interior sports power windows, air conditioning, 6-way Toronado power adjustable seat bench seat, and a tilt/telescopic steering column from a '65 Cadillac. Air conditioning outlets are located in the glove box with hinged chrome door. Hinged chrome center dash grille allows access to wiring, hour meter, etc. Full compliment of Stewart Warner gauges (oil, temp, fuel, amps) and speedometer located in dash. Custom button/tuck gray/blue upholstery throughout the interior as well as under the hood - now converted to trunk space. Spare Tire with custom upholstered cover resides in the trunk. Truck also comes with a heavy duty, custom embroidered California car cover. Thousands of hours of fabrication have gone into this truly unique engineering marvel. This is a one-of-a-kind creation that is guaranteed to garner massive amounts of attention at the shows. I have a clear title and a complete photo album documenting the entire restoration and build. Truck has been featured in Rod & Custom magazine and has won numerous awards and trophies - including a Best of Show at the Hot Rod SuperNationals. This truck is street driven as often as possible during the summer months. It has never been driven in the rain. It has a few small stone chips here and there, that comes from driving it, but nothing that detracts from the overall show quality. Paint is older, but well maintained and still shines and looks excellent. It is mechanically very sound, and everything works as it should. The two shortcomings of these early Chevy pickups was lack of power and traction - this custom '48 Chevy cures both of these issues at once! It's "UnReel" !!! This vehicle is being sold as is, where is, with no warranty expressed, written or implied. Buyer is responsible for vehicle pick up or shipping arangements.
