Vehicle Detail
BMW R50 to R69S HOSKE Gas Tank R50S R60/2 R69 R59 R/3 Vintage Hoske tank in nearly perfect Condition – no need to be restored... finish black with handmade white pin stripes. This is a used, large vintage gas tank from my fathers BMW-parts-collection and probably was in use during the 1960s with his first bike, which was an R50 which has been sold long time ago. The tank was stored safe and warm in the house over the years and therefore is still in a very good condition. Still a great looking, very unique, large BMW gas tank, which you won´t see very often in this condition. It is a – large Hoske gas tank- i don´t know what the exact type description is, but there are several -fabrication/ type/ serial numbers- on the outside bottom of the tank. On the right outside bottom side is marked 9.9.60 and G.H.B. Don´t know if this indicates that it is from ´60, but i do think so. On the other side, same position is marked - R S / 3 - ... next line - E. HOSKE - There are absolutely no dents or injuries on the surface of the tank. It is from the in- and outside in a very good condition concerning steel, function( no corrosion) and finish – only exception: two very thin capillary scratches in the finish, which could be repaired easily. This is a model with a toolbox. The tool cover/ lid is ok from the in- and outside, no rust either. No petcocks included with this auction. The gas cap is original. It has a few fine scratches on the surface and some little dents – it should be replaced and/or refurbished/ polished to obtain the perfect look. The tank could be mounted immediately as is... but no mounting material included. The original BMW – Emblems are screwed to the tank. The Emblems are in very good condition, the white pin stripe outlines are as well. This large HOSKE tank looks great ! This 7,4 Gal tank will mount to a 1955-1969 BMW R50-R69S /2 , as far as i know ... for all bikes of the R/3 model series... might fit others, too. If somebody knows more, please let me know . Anyway, please do check by yourself while comparing the fabrication numbers, if this tank fits with your bike – or could be modified to fit... as i said before, It is in a very good and solid condition and needs absolutely no restoration. Measured Size: length x height x width = 610mm x 320mm x 340mm Capacity : 32 liter = 8,45 gallons As far as I could check, the inside of the tank obviously does not appear to have corrosion (see pics), but it is impossible to know what is in the bottom of the tank without getting it flushed out. The inside is dry. It does not smell like bad fuel and nothing came out when I turned it upside down. There is no corrosion showing on the bottom of the in and outside of the tank. (please see pictures!). Hoske TankErnst Hoske was a manufacturer of aftermarket accessories for the older BMW motorcycle, notably fuel tanks and mufflers. Hoske also made a wide variety of racing components, and supplied fuel tanks for the BMW racing team -Rennsports-. He designed a deep sump passive oil cooler that was copied by a company called Briel in the late 1970's and marketed by them for /5 through /7 BMW motorcycle series.Hoske made tanks from the 1950's until the 1970's. The company crafted a dizzying array of different style tanks and other parts. They made gas tanks, seats , seat brackets, handlebars, engine parts, mufflers and other miscellaneous items. They were best known for their tanks though and the most popular model was the "Grosse Sporttank". There were around a half dozen standard models and an unknown number of one off tanks built for specific customer wishes. They were crafted out of heavy gauge steel . Please check my other auctions, too. I do also own a Heinrich (Jeckel) Tank , which is in another auction -maybe next week- and another BMW Hoske Gas Tank – but these two tanks need both to be restored ...
