Vehicle Detail
This tank will mount to any 1955-1969 BMW R50-R69S /2It was used a few times for racing with a BMW R50 at an traditional oldtimer-racing-event on the nürburgring race track. Since then, it was stored safe and warm in the house over the years and is in very good condition. Color is black. Still a great looking, very unique, large BMW gas tank, which you won´t see very often – not quite sure about the exact type – the technical bulletin that i found says "Karl Heinrich Fuhrmann I" – but no garantee on that - a copy of the data sheet exists. No evident dents, injuries, scratches, markings or damages on the surface of the tank. The finish looks very good – no need to refurbish or paint. This tank can be mounted immediately as is. Just mount and start cruisin´... The finish is black without pin stripes. Gas cap without lock, no petcock, no toolbox... On the gas cap are a few fine scratches but nothing serious – could probably be polished off... see pics. The inside of the gas cap has a little surface corrosion ...which definitively can be polished off ...see pics. This tank should fit all BMW bikes from 1955- 1969, from the R-Series as R50 – R69s / 2 , maybe others as well ... but you better check by yourself before you bid if the tank fits with your bike or could be modified to fit... see pics. Measured Size: length x height x width = 620mm x 350mm x 380mmCapacity : aprox. 8 gallons Although he inside does not appear to have corrosion from just looking in the fuel filler hole it is impossible to know what is in the bottom of the tank without getting it flushed out. No corrosion showing on the bottom of the outside of the tank, too. Heinrich Tank Karl Heinrich designed fuel tanks that were produced from the 1960's through the 1980's. He produced many different tanks in different sizes from the same basic stamping. The company was bought and sold twice after Mr Heinrich retired. The later tanks were produced by Reinschlussel and then Jeckel. They were all similar in shape with the deep knee cutouts. The smallest version was 28L and they went as large as 48L. Some but not many were made without a tool lid . Some tanks are interchangeable between motorcycle, some not. Please watch also my other auctions ... for example large BMW R75/5 gas tank -not the toaster tank- in chrome... maybe interesting, too...
