Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a 1965 Ford Mustang Fastback 2+2. It originally rolled out of the Meuschen, NJ assembly plant on March 11, 1965 as a silver-blue metallic Fastback with standard blue interior and a 3-speed. It was purchased from the first owner in 1970 and has stayed in the same family since. In 1973 the current 302 V8 and 4-speed were installed. The installation looks professional using Ford parts. The owners claim there have been performance upgrades to the engine over the years like head/valve improvements and a stouter cam, but I can't prove it. The car was used as a fair weather cruiser over the years until about 1998 when it was passed between brothers to bue used as a father/son project. At that point it was given a full professional repaint and a nice set of Weld wheels. Shortly after, the father passed away and the project stalled. The car was occasionally taken out of the garage and driven to keep things lubed, but eventually a few years ago, the car was put on jackstands and prepped for longterm storage. I purchased the car in December and removed it from it's garage of many years. Once home, I flushed the fuel tank, fuel lines and added fresh gasoline, rebuilt the 600 cfm Holley carburetor, installed a brand new OEM style distributor, replaced the fuel and air filters and installed a fresh coil. I then performed a full tune-up including spark plugs, plug wires, distributor cap, ignition rotor and condensor. I changed out the brake fluid in the master cylinder and topped off the radiator. I replaced the valve cover gaskets and changed the engine oil and filter. The car now starts easily and idles smoothly, it shifts just as it should through all 4 gears and reverse. I don't personally doubt the old owners claims of the performance upgrades in the engine, it runs strong! It has a 600 cfm Holley and Edelbrock Torker 289 hi-rise intake. It also has older but solid true-dual exhaust starting from factory style manifolds and exiting through chrome tailpipes. The brakes and suspension seem to be working properly, minus a very minor pull to the right when braking. It's likely just an adjustment issue. It has a 3.00:1 rear axle ratio. The other mechanicals work properly: waterpump, alternator, radiator, thermostat, wiring, wipers, headlights, brakelights, turn signals, gauges, speedometer, warning lamps, are all working as expected. Body-wise, this car is super solid. There are no major rust or damage issues to speak of. The car has all it's original sheetmetal, down to the factory floorpans and trunk floor. The floors are solid, no weak spots. No patches, no hack-jobs, etc. The fenders and doors are factory Ford parts, there is no aftermarket "made in Taiwan" junk on this car. The only rust I could find is a small bubble in the lower front corners of the doors. Being that this car was painted in last back in 1998, there can't be major issues under there. This is easily one of the most solid 65's I've seen in a LONG time. The paint is holding up nicely and while it isn't perfect, it is perfectly presentable for a nice driver. It looks good up close minus a few small scuffs and chips. It is a basecoat/clearcoat finish and still shines nicely. There are no major issues with the body or appearance of this car. It's super nice driver-quality on the outside! The interior of the car is in great original condition! The seat upholstery looks original to me and is in great overall shape. The headliner is excellent, doors and door trim panels look nice. The dash, gauges and glove box are in good shape as well. The dashpad, carpet and kick panels are perfect. The fold down rear seat works properly and the front seats fold forward and slide as they should. The Fastback vents and sail panels look great and work perfectly. All the glass is excellent, the windows roll up and down properly and the vent windows work fine. The aftermarket wheel has a bit of pitting in the chrome, but it still looks pretty good. Overall, it's in REALLY nice condition inside! All the exterior trim is in nice shape. The bumpers and bumperettes look great with no pitting or discoloration, window trim is nice minus a small ding above the windshield. The wheels are nice and the vent window chrome is presentable. The door handles and taillight bezels have a small bit of pitting but still look good. The rocker trim panels have a bit of oxidation but look nice. The weatherstripping is brittle and some of it is missing, expect to replace it. The emblems are in decent shape, and the grille and grille surround trim look great! The best part is that it also has the super cool Shelby GT350 side scoops hood scoops and side stripes. The scoops are non-functional but look great, fit well and really make the car pop! This car is solid, nice looking, good running and 100% complete. It's quite useable and driveable as-is or will be an excellent starting point for the restoration of your dreams. even as it is, you'll make quite a splash at your local cruise-in! Keep in mind though that the car isn't flawless and has only recently been removed from long-term storage. Please don't expect to fly into Atlanta and drive it to Los Angeles without giving it a thorough once-over, be realistic. Anyone is welcome and encouraged to come see the car in person and take it for a spin. It is stored in a garage in the suburbs north of Atlanta, Ga. Email me and we'll set up a time if you're interested. Thanks for looking, and good luck!
