Vehicle Detail

I can’t believe I’m going to get rid of this. Listen up XJS owners!!!! Are you tired of driving your baby listening to rocks hit it, driving over bumps, praying that you are going to make your destination? Then do yourself a favor and park that beauty and enjoy a superb drivable car. It does have a few flaws. But they are far fewer then the average XJS you will find out there. This is the third of six that I have owned and the only one I could truly enjoy driving. I bought it at a salvage auction in 2005 after it was considered totaled (Major front end damage and rear valance damage) the mileage was 69580 at that time. It was from Maine and all repair work was done there. The front nose was straightened and parts were replaced from a 1991 donor xjs with fire damage, a Lister Kit was purchased from Australia (not cheep and virtually unavailable today however it was cheaper then buying the original parts at that time hence totaling a 75k car) It was first placed on the road again in 2006 with the original 6.0L V12. The car is straight and had no problems making the 150 mark at that time and handled very well (I must say I had no qualms driving this car to its limits, it would never be a true collectable after its prior damage there for it must be driven! And how it was for 4000 miles until she gave up the v12 ghost. Those of you v12 first timers don't expect the exhilaration from this diesel, there is no substitute. The 5.3L v12 gives you a wow wow experience the 6.0L is a wow wow wow, however you will get that silly grin when you drive it. I'd still give it a one wow + experience). The hood (1985) and DS headlight was replaced in 2008 after being backed into. I'm going to list the faults now but don’t get discouraged I do know every inch on these cars after restoring 3 of them, please do yourself a favor and read the good points too. Please no worries about it being a standard it has enough torque to basicaly dump the clutch at idle. You have to be trying to stall it in order to do so, my 16yo dau learned to manual in this car, it is really that easy to drive. It has been Titled 3 times to my knowledge Original title from Maine when I purchased it, Rebuilt title from Maine after recertification of road worthyness, And Kansas issued a clean title when I move out here with it. All repairs and modifications were professionaly done. Please bid accordingly! Heater doesn’t work for s*** !! Dont plan on driving this car if its below 32 deg outside (Not for lack of trying I have actually installed a circulator pump from the rear heater of school bus trying to get more antifreeze to the heater core, Also disconnected the electric fan in fact I have never turned it back on.) So in short this baby doesn’t burn enough fuel to heat up the 4 gallons of antifreeze much less heat up 4500 lbs of steel with a cloth top, if you want heat in the cold winter days you will need to change out the standard v12 radiator. Or better yet plumb the radiator into the cabin cause the heater core in these things is shite! You get twice the heat from the floorboards then the heater vents. Electric mirrors don't work!! They are from a 91 XJS never hooked them up (cant remember if I hacked the plugs off or not, think I did so they wouldn't get caught on the windows going up and down) Hey I figured once they are set for me I'm good, and they were stainless no need to paint them. OOH Shinny! No cruise control!! That’s what the floor board is for silly (XJS's have many bugs, cruise control failure rate is up there, good luck finding one that works, they are fixable, have done it to a few, but not really worth the effort in my book, and believe me I have chased a few bugs on these cars) You will need to install an aftermarket one from Wal-Mart if you want (Reliable) cruise. The original cruise electronic controller is still in the car the cruise on off switch has been rewired to control the glow plugs. Speaking of glow plugs!! They are manually controlled, meaning you will need to hold a button down for five seconds or so if the car hasn’t been run in the past hour. If you want automatic glow plugs, you can buy a glow plug timer at NAPA and install it. Headlights don't match!! One is real glass the other is plastic Gauge backlight stopped working 6 mos ago. Never investigated the problem car is reliable and I know my speed by the sound and what gear I'm in. Speaking of sound!! Well it is a diesel, very noticeable at idle, a far cry from Jaguars decibel spec. However the 2" resonator pipe I put in gives it a sweet roar at 65 mph and conversation can still easily be had with the top down. Will not pass emissions testing!! Well on regular diesel fuel anyway, maybe on biodiesel it is suppose to burn without emissions. I would encourage you to put the bean to her; I use to run B20 in it all the time with no problems. There is no Cat converter on this car so if your state doesn’t allow a waiver for vehicles 94 or older or have a test pipe clause your only hope for getting around that enema stick would be veggie oil or drop a big wad of cash on cat converter and particulate filter. Leaks oil!! Four or five drops a day, (only on days you drive it if it sits there is no problem. Far less the your average XJS but a nuisance none the less, she will need a special parking spot. (This is not a seal leak all seals were new when I put this on the road it is coming from the fabricated oil pan. You will have to live with it or pull the motor and reweld the pan. Again more work then its worth. (see picture, the coin is a quarter, the fresh wet spot is after moving the car when it was parked there for two weeks) Tachometer doesn’t work! It did with the v12 in it so it is functional. The wire to connect to the distributor is still there as well as the computer controller that sends signal to gauge is in the trunk and hooked up there are aftermarket devices for diesel engines that simulate a pulse like a electronic distributor, wanted to put one in but never went thru with it again more trouble then its worth. Information display does not accurately display fuel mileage. (It is based on the Tach signal) There is no Air Conditioning!! Will need major work to put ac into this car! Drop the top if it’s that nice, but beware you can get sunburned easily (been there ouch) Passenger side door needs to be open when you put the window up; it catches on the rear window seal when going up. The pass door does open harder then it should. Can be adjusted but again not worth the effort in my book. Piping on drivers side seat is starting to come apart Front fiberglass bumper has cracks. Thank you little old lady in a cavalier at ACE hardware. I must say had that happened to any other Jag of mine I'd a needed a defibulator. But not required here, I remained calm and just reminded myself it’s a driver!!!! Now that’s piece of mind with a wee touch of class. (See Picture) ABS Light came on about 6 mos ago after I changed two of the rear shocks. Again I'd investigate the problem, but the brakes perform fine and have no problems stopping the car, the ABS just wont activate. Good luck getting the KUMO tires to not grab with over a 1000lbs of down pressure on them. Paint is 5 years old now and has a few chips and scratches and a few spots were rust is starting to blister. Nason Fulthane Urethane paint still shines nice and shouldn't need any body work attention for several years. Please Note: Don't bother your local Nissan dealer, as they will tell you that Nissan didn't make an RD 28 motor, No really! Parts are easily found on the web and can be ordered from UK, or just about anywhere but the US. (I'm sure it has something to do with it being a superb motor, Google it if ya have any doubts.) Not that it will need any attention, as you will see when I list what has been done to this car. As for taking it to the local Jag dealer I'm sure you will get (what, a diesel! that’s blastfimy) Have no fears the average backyard or diesel mechanic should be able to keep it on the road. I would recommend that the new owner of any Jaguar know how to turn a wrench, if not loads of money will always surfice. Ok Within the past 30,000 miles this car has received the following NEW parts. Head Gasket, Valve Seals, Timing belt, Tensioner Pulley, Water Pump, Rear Main Seal, Clutch, Clutch Piston, Throw out Bearing, Two Front shocks, Two Rear Shocks, Belts, Hoses, 6 glow plugs, Injector Pump Rebuilt, 6 Injectors Rebuilt, Kumo Tires. Jensen CD/MP3 Player, Windshield, Brake Pads Front. Rotors Front. Brake pads Rear, Ebrake pads. There is two more rear shocks in the trunk that need to be installed. Optima Red Top Battery, Headlight relay. I have accurately described this fine automobile you can expect at least 20,000 miles of trouble free driving, with a smile only these cars can bring. I would offer a warrantee but you are going to pay me about 1/3 of what I have into this car. So it is sold AS IS! Fly in and drive it home. She has been on many of highway trips and has plenty more left in her. It will make a cross-country trip with no problems. But dress accordingly! I will personally drive it to your location within 150 miles of zip 67401, if you promise to drive me back home in it. I'll even spring for the fuel. I am willing to help arrange shipping, I do know several good carriers that have provided me great service from the Midwest to east coast, haven’t experienced west coast shipping but will help arrange if needed. Other then that the buyer will be responsible for shipping expenses! I'll even consider driving it farther then 150 miles if you have a bottle of fine scotch, a wood stove roarin, and a plane ticket back waiting for me when I arrive. I will personally explain every quirk upon your possession, expect no surprises. The car is parked inside a garage and I can store it for a reasonable amount of time. The car has not been polished or wash since august of last year, and has seen well over 300 miles since then. All I did this morning was wipe the dust and dirt off. FYI This is the most economical car you will ever own! Expect 35MPG+ with little to no maintenance from a car that looks hot, drives nice and is reliable not to mention will always have value even if you parted it out you will get an easy $3K. There is no reserve! !!Serious bidders only please!! Paypal deposit of $500.00 due upon compleation of auction. The remainder due in cash or certified check due on or before pickup or delivery of vehicle. Sorry no personal checks. Call if you have any questions. !!!Good Luck and Happy bidding!!!
