Vehicle Detail
This car is a replica of the 1967 Mercury Cougar XR-7 driven by Dan Gurney in the United States Trans Am Series. This Stunning 1968 Mercury Cougar was built by Barry's Speed Shop, as part of the second season of a 10 episode series called, "Wrecks to Riches" that aired on The Learning Channel (TLC). A number two of 10 numbered cars being built for the second season, and there will be a special firewall badge identifying the car as car number 2 for Wrecks to Riches season 2 and the car was acknowledged and autographed by Dan. http://turbo.discovery.com/wrecks-to-riches/episode/episode-2.html Since its completion by Barry’s Speed Shop, Competition Engine Development of Phoenix has disassembled, inspected and reconstructed the engine, driveline and chassis components. Reality shows are more about production issues than product quality. Some of the outstanding features include: Super Muscle Car lettering, Engine is a 302 c.i. Ford V8 with Edelbrock dual four-barrel carburetors, Tremec Cobra unit 6 speed manual transmission, Currie 9" rear end with 3.50:1 gears, PPG red and silver paint, high performance suspension QA1 shocks, Baer Brakes, 17 inch racing wheels, March Performance drive system Painless Wiring harness, Magnaflow Exhaust, US Radiator triple flow aluminum radiator, bucket seat interior, custom Autosound stereo system, built with restoration parts from Auto Krafters, everything has been replaced or upgraded. The rear end is posi-traction. As currently configured, the car is an example of the “resto-mod” school of vehicle reconstruction. The car features competition quality disc brakes and suspension, MSD ignition components, a mild race grind camshaft and forged crank, rods and pistons. To answer some of the questions about this auction: The Cougar from "Wrecks to Riches" originally came with a 347. The 347 was notorious for blowing and the same thing happened with that engine upon our purchase. As a result, a 302 was modified heavily and dropped into the Cougar. The engine is much stronger than the 347 and has been issue free. The paint and finish are flawless. A new clutch was also installed for faster shifting. The car had been inspected at length to ensure that any discrepancies that the tv show might've overlooked were fixed upon our purchase.
