Vehicle Detail

BMW R50 to R69S HOSKE Gas Tank R50S R60/2 R69 R59 Vintage Hoske tank in good Condition but to restore/ needs finish This is a used gas tank from my fathers BMW-parts-collection and probably was in use during the 1960s/70s with his first bike, which was an R50 which has been sold long time ago. The tank was stored safe and warm in the house over the years and therefore is still in good condition. It is a – Hoske Tank- i don´t know what the exact type description is, but there are several -fabrication/ type/ serial numbers- on the outside bottom of the tank. On the right outside bottom side is marked 19.8.69 and G.H.B. Don´t know if this indicates that it is from ´69, but i think so. On the other side, same position is marked – R.5.1 - or – R.S.1 - ... next line – R.26 - ... next line - E. HOSKE - see pictures, please! There are a few age related scratches in the finish but no dents or injuries on the surface of the tank. All in all in a good condition concerning steel and function. It is matt finished in black – don´t know if its some sort of filler or finish or just paint for rust protection - maybe sprayed; looks quite good but should be renewed to look really fine. This is a model with a toolbox – key and lock are mssing. The tool cover is ok from the in- and outside. The tool box itself shows a little surface rust in the corners of the inside. There is one Rubber block -for mounting- the second one is missing, but should be replaced anyway. This 7,4 Gal tank will mount to a 1955-1969 BMW R50-R69S /2 , as far as i know and this is what the BMW - Oldtimer Dealer told me. If somebody knows better, please let me know . In any case, please do check by comparing the fabrication numbers, if this tank does really fit with your bike – no guarantee on that! It is in solid condition but will need restoration. Capacity : 28 liter = 7,4 gallons There are two fuel petcocks. One is ok but needs a little care, the other is a little -out of shape- and the handle is missing . Both petcocks have surface rust. The gas cap is without lock/ original. There aren´t any foam/ rubber protection pads for the knees and therefore need to be (re)placed. It would be safe to say that the tank should be refurbished before putting it to use. The inside of the tank does not appear to have corrosion from just looking in the fuel filler hole, but it is impossible to know what is in the bottom of the tank without getting it flushed out. It does not smell like bad fuel and nothing came out when I turned it upside down. There is no corrosion showing on the bottom of the outside of the tank(please see pictures!). The BMW emblem is missing but is an easy-to-get-item here at ebay or at your local BMW dealer . Hoske Tank Ernst Hoske was a manufacturer of aftermarket accessories for the older BMW motorcycle, notably fuel tanks and mufflers. Hoske also made a wide variety of racing components, and supplied fuel tanks for the BMW racing team -Rennsports-. He designed a deep sump passive oil cooler that was copied by a company called Briel in the late 1970's and marketed by them for /5 through /7 BMW motorcycle series. Hoske made tanks from the 1950's until the 1970's. The company crafted a dizzying array of different style tanks and other parts. They made gas tanks, seats , seat brackets, handlebars, engine parts, mufflers and other miscellaneous items. They were best known for their tanks though and the most popular model was the "Grosse Sporttank". There were around a half dozen standard models and an unknown number of one off tanks built for specific customer wishes. They were crafted out of heavy gauge steel . I do also own a Heinrich Tank , which is for sale in another auction ... and another BMW Gas Tank from my R75/5 bike -not the toaster tank- in chrome -try to put in that one before xmas, too... If you have further questions, please write me in english, german or french... thanks to all of you! Payment Methods If you use Pay-Pal, your order will ship immediately. If you pay by personal cheque or money order, your order will ship, only after payment has cleared the bank. It weighs about 25#’s in a box. I will sell and ship it overseas, but I will not quote shipping as part of the sale on overseas buyers until the sale ends. It is getting old being killed on shipping costs overseas using the online-shipping guide for large packages and then having to pay double the amount when I go to ship it. I will get a quote for the winning bidder, but you can check the cost ahead of time yourself if you wish. If you do not have at least 10 positive feedbacks, please do not bid without contacting me first or your bid will be cancelled or blocked. I accept collected funds only and for the amount of the sale. I can´t accept personal checks. If you have any questions, please e-mail me before bidding and I will answer any of your questions. Good luck !
