Vehicle Detail
Untitled Document Extremely rare, 1 of only 100 Trans-Am Edition Javelins built by American Motors. Located in Southern California, this extremely solid car underwent a full nut & bolt restoration by the previous owner a few years ago and is still in great shape. Always garaged, this car has only seen limited miles to the occasional local car show. As mentioned these limited production cars are extremely rare. Only 30 cars are listed in the current T/A Javelin Registry, three of those are rumored to have been destroyed. This may be a once in a lifetime chance for someone to own such a historic AMC car. Built by AMC for dealer bragging rights, these cars were meant to challenge the image of the other Trans-Am specials (Boss Mustang, Z28 Camaro, AAR Cuda & T/A Challenger, Couger Eliminator). When everyone started bringing out SCCA Trans-Am homologation cars, AMC followed by issuing a press release that it would build just 100 limited edition cars and no more. Unlike the S/S AMX, The Trans-Am Javelins have factory OEM quality paint finishes and body fitment. All work was kept in-house and done to factory standards. All cars came originally with the largest 390 motor, Hurst Competition shifters attached to the heavy-duty Borg-Warner T-10 4 speed. They also included The Go-Package with heavy-duty suspension and standard large power disc brakes, larger standard PolyGlas tires, upgraded 3.91 locking rear end and a standard functional Ram-Air hood with cold-air air-cleaner. No factory options could be ordered. AMC pulled each car from the assembly line part way through production and painted them in Red, White & Blue. Then they put them back on the assembly line and finished production. Custom SCCA homologated front air dam and a custom homologated adjustable Ronnie Kaplan rear spoiler were installed. This car has always been a Red, White & Blue painted car. It was never painted a solid color like many TA cars. When it was restored the original paint lines were duplicated, just where AMC put them. The underside, door jams and engine compartment are exceptionally clean. This car was taken down to bare metal before being repainted. The rear Kaplan spoiler is the original factory fiberglass unit. The paint on the fiberglass has some crazing on it. The Engine is a 401 cubic inch, but as you know AMC cars cannot be "numbers matching", so a 390 can be dropped in and be "correct" since AMC didn't serialize motors like most others. This motor runs extremely strong and the car is very, very fast. The stock Hurst Super Competition shifter is still in the car, but is difficult to get into reverse sometimes. All other gears shift just as they should. The power brakes work very well and stop as they should. The Power steering works great and makes turns smooth and easy. The interior is in great shape. The front and rear vinyl seats look brand new, although the middle inserts are an incorrect black material instead of black vinyl. The headliner and door panels are in excellent shape. All interior panels look really good. The carpeting is in great shape. The aluminum dash panel is a wavy but new ones are reproduced. Original factory "Rimblo" steering wheel was freshly restored by "Rimblo Buddy". Glass is all in great shape, although the passenger side is a little loose. Stainless is all in really good shape. The driver side sun visor has been hand signed by Ronnie Kaplan, the leader of the AMC racing team for '68/'69, as well as the man who personally designed the front and rear spoilers on these T/A cars (and was also responsible for the development of the AMC CrossRam manifolds) During the restoration when the car was taken down to bare metal and re-painted... all the suspension was dissassembled, blasted, re-finished & rebuilt before going back on. It hasn't been driven very much so most of it still looks new. You will notice in the photos that I have two different style wheels pictured. I recently put the correct factory Goodyear Polyglas reproduction radials on with the factory correct rear shocks. Previously the car had traction bars & Eagles, but I have removed those to make the wheels & tires factory correct. I literally have about a mile and a half on the new tires. I will install either set on the car for you, but I would suggest the Polyglass, since they are correct and the most expensive. This car runs and drives great. As I mentioned it is a VERY fast car. It's definitely a fun car to drive. There is always TONS of power on tap. I personally hate to sell it, knowing I will probably never find another one or be able to afford another, but I have six old cars and not enough garage space. To add to that my wife got a new car she wants an inside space. So 2 of my AMCs need to be sold. I NEED to sell it, so I think it's a good price for what it is. I had bought this car with it's clear title and just never got around to registering it (too many old cars, not enough time). I will sign this clear title over to the new owner. Please do not bid on this car if you don't have the money to finish the transaction. If you need a loan, make sure it is secured before you bid. I will require a $1000.00 non-refundable deposit within 24 hours of the auction closing. The full remainder must be paid within 3 days via wire. If the new owner is out of state, I will help load the car if needed. I will not arrange shipping, but I can make suggestions on some very good reliable carriers who specialize in rare cars. As with most old cars, this is sold as is, where is. I will not reveal a reserve so please don't ask. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. It is a great car in really great shape. As mentioned there are some small detail things that can be addressed, but they are all very minor. It's a rare car in very rare condition. The value of these cars has historically been very high and should definitely continue going up. Someone is going to win a really great rare piece of American Motors history. Please do not assume it's a really high reserve, becuase it's not! Feel free to email if you have any questions. On Dec-18-10 at 16:53:35 PST, seller added the following information: I am adding these photo of the interior, motor and door jambs below. We had a thunderstorm today so the lighting isn't great, but here you go. I also decided that I don't want the car's new owner to have to jump through hoops with their DMV, so I am going down to the CA DMV Monday to transfer the car in my name (after a year or year and a half) so that it is straight forward and easy for the winner. The photos are pretty straight forward. As mentioned the seats, carpet and headliner are in great shape. The seat inserts are an incorrect material, but in great shape. I mentioned the rimblo wheel was restored, It is, but I noticed some small, fine cracks this afternoon. I have included photos of the door jambs. They look great. The paint shop was able to save the original label and reattached it as shown. It's in great shape. The motor is shown too. It's very clean and presentable. I removed the air cleaner so you can see everything. I have two air cleaners that go with the car. The correct ram-air cleaner with correct manifold chimney and an aftermarket chrome Edelbrock unit. The original OEM one is complete but needs to be painted the correct luster. You get both of them. It was too dark to get a photo of inside the trunk, but I got the inner-lid. Everything is very clean. As mentioned it's a great car. It was restored a few years ago and is still very presentable (as you can see). It will need some detail things finished, but you would be hard pressed to find another T/A in similar great shape. Don't hesitate with any questions. On Dec-22-10 at 12:07:34 PST, seller added the following information: I wanted to add the following photos of this Trans-Am Javelin's factory tags. If you have any questions let me know! (Factory production door tag with build date & factory VIN) All Trans-Am Javelins had been built in September 1969 with the exception of 1 car (Factory Data Plate) 40 years old and a little oxidized, but still in great shape and readable. This Trans-Am's data plate shows the body serial number which was used to serialize the bodies. This number is in proper sequence with other known T/As. The model number shows that it the has correct factory Javelin SST designation(which is mandatory on the Trans-Am Javelins) The Trim number is 061F, which is the correct black vinyl interior for the Trans-Am Editions. The Paint code shows the factory "00" code which means factory custom, and stands for the RWB paint when on these TA Javelins The final E015916 is a Sequence number. It was a number used by AMC to keep track of production. It specifies the East assembly line, which all these cars were built. It also is right in line where it is supposed to be. (Factory dash-mounted VIN tag) This tag has never been removed or fooled with. The windshield was wet so it's a bad photo, but the numbers shown tell you that the car is a 1970 Javelin 390 with 4 Speed and SST trim. The last numbers (Kept private by the box, tell you exactly what VIN number this specific car is. This number tells you that this car was made right in the middle of AMC's largest batch of T/A Javelins and that this car is without question a factory T/A. As mentioned in the Q/A section below, this car is ONE consecutive number from yet another known T/A Javelin, and TWO consecutive numbers in the other direction is yet another T/A Javelin that is still owned by it's original owner.) On Dec-25-10 at 03:01:09 PST, seller added the following information: The reserve is met. This car will be sold. Also, I know people will bid last minute. Please be aware that some bidders use computer bidding programs. These bids are delivered in the last 2 or 3 seconds, SO YOU WILL NOT HAVE TIME TO COUNTER THEM. If you want the car, bid your maximum up front.
