True No Reserve auction so please do not bid unless you are able to complete the transaction. I currently have 7 MGs and a TR6, if you don’t count the two MG body shells I have at a friend’s farm. It is time to thin the herd. My first car was a 1973 MGB that I purchased in 1979. I have owned about two dozen little British cars over the years. This car is my current “occasional driver”. I have owned it for about three years and have put about 2000 miles on it. A friend of mine found it in the North Carolina Mountains with a For Sale sign on it. He purchased it from the original owner’s family. I saw it at my friend’s house shortly after he purchased it and I was struck by how original it was. He had not transferred the title at that point and I bought it from him. He had taken the bumpers off and I thought it looked better without them. I had an old valance from a 63 MGB that I sprayed black and mounted on the car. I welded some tabs on the valance to mount some early blinker/running lights, hence the non-original look. I did not cut the fenders or modify the car to fit the valance or lights. I do have the original front and back bumpers if you want them. I did not clean the car prior to taking pictures so you see it in its natural state. I notice the glove box lock is missing in one of the pictures. I have reinserted it. Some of the pictures were taken at the edge of my front yard about 6 months months ago and others were taken in the garage last week. This is the first time I have offered this car for sale. Sold as is where is. Contact me within 24 hours of auction end. Payment within seven business days. This is a 30 year old British car and not a new Honda. I recommend inspection of the car. I am located in Clemson, SC which is half way between Atlanta and Charlotte. I typically respond to questions the quickly. The good: · Clear title in my name. Currently registered and insured in SC. · The car can sit for weeks and when you turn the key, it starts and runs (but there is no guarantee with Lucas electrics!). · 99320 original miles. There may be a few more before the car is sold. · All original smog equipment is mounted and functional. · All lights and gauges work. The clock keeps surprisingly accurate time. · Has an original Michelin XWX spare tire. · Manual choke kit installed. Other than the stereo, it is the only non-original equipment. · Trunk is very solid. · Original hood is in very good condition. · Convertible top was replaced by the original owner and is in very good condition. · Currently has a tank of 93 octane methanol free gasoline. The bad: · The car was driven frequently on a gravel road by the original owners. The paint was chipped off the lower fenders and rockers. This resulted in significant rust in the rockers. Both the inner and outer rockers will need to be replaced eventually. The floors are surprisingly solid. · The car was repainted the original Inca Yellow at one time. The paint is fair with chips and cracks in multiple locations. · The original driver’s seat has two areas where the vinyl is split. · The carburetor is running a little rich. I have not gotten around to rebuilding it.· The the vinyl shift boot is split. On Dec-14-10 at 06:23:21 PST, seller added the following information: The car does come with the carpet and rubber mats for the floors. I took them out before I took the pictures. On Dec-18-10 at 21:36:50 PST, seller added the following information: I had a chance to run the car tonight and the oil pressure cold was a little over 75 psig. It runs about 60 psig hot. I had a question about a crack on the dash and there is a crack on the lower right hand side on the bottom of the dash to the right of the glove box.On Dec-19-10 at 15:10:48 PST, seller added the following information: I drove the MG on a 25 mile round trip today. It started without issue even though I had not run it in a few weeks. Part of the trip was at 60 mph and there was no shake and the car tracked well. Oil pressure hot was about 60 psig. The temperature gauge stayed in the black just above the blue hash on the cold side. I remember the car running in the center of the gauge when it was hot outside. It probably has a lower temperature thermostat in it. When I got it home, I washed the dust off the exterior and interior. I topped off the fluids and looked it over. I noticed two more things I want to mention. The windshield is original and does have some scuff marks from the wipers. They don’t seem too deep, but I don’t know if they can be buffed out. I also realized I do not have the key to the glove box. The key is a different type than the door/trunk key. I will look for it, but assume I don’t find it. Driving it kind of made me regret putting it up for sale. The current bid is less than half of what I paid for it. I do have to let it go though. I don’t have space in my garage for all eight of the MGs/Triumph. I keep some at a friends garage and I want him to remain a friend.
