Vehicle Detail
2002 VW Beetle Turbo S - the best Beetle model ever introduced by Volkswagen. VERY LOW MILEAGE - only 41,759 miles. Very well-equipped. In excellent condition with nearly new tires and battery. Someone should get a good buy on this because my reserve price ($5,500) is just above the CarMax quote I got today ($5,000 - obviously wholesale). This is a 3 day auction. If I don't get the reserve, the Beetle goes to CarMax next Tuesday afternoon (their quotes are good for 7 days). This worked great with my last car sale - the auction closed $1,100 higher than CarMax offered, and the buyer was happy. Let's hope it works out for both of us this time too. IMPORTANT: The winning bidder must complete the purchase by 1 PM Tuesday, 11/30/10 with cash or a cashier's check. The car can be left with me and picked up by 12/7/10, but in order for me to have CarMax as a fallback, the 11/30/10 deadline is important. This is a great car that's a blast to drive; I am only selling it because I needed a more "client-friendly" vehicle. For those who don't know the Turbo S, the turbo boosts the power to 200 HP (regular Beetle Turbos have 180) and it has a 6-speed manual transmission. It is very peppy. I used to have a 250 HP bi-turbo Audi S4, and the Turbo S seems quicker, at least up to 40 mph. Passing power is great thanks to the turbo - even at highways speeds. The interior is a very sharp 2-tone black and gray leather. Lots of other goodies were standard on the Turbo S - things liked heated front seats, 2-way power sun-/moon-roof, electronic stability control ("ESP"), power windows, remote locking system, "Monsoon" 8-speaker sound system, fog lights, etc. - see the full list below. The visibility is outstanding. Due to the design of the roof line, front seat headroom is remarkable - I read a couple years ago the Beetle offers the most front headroom of any production car. List of features and equipment: 2-tone leather seats; front seats are heated 2-way power sunroof/moonroof Remote, key-operated door locks and hatchback release 200 HP with 6-speed manual transmission Special 17-inch Turbo S wheels Electronic stability system (VW's "ESP"); can be switched off Monsoon 8-speaker sound system with CD player (I replaced the original cassette unit with an identical-looking CD unit from a later-model Beetle) Pre-wired, built-in rack in trunk for CD changer Pop-up spoiler above rear window activates at 45 MPH, retracts during slowdown Fog lights Hatchback with flat-folding rear seat provides surprising hauling space (2) 12-volt power otlets on console Leather-wrapped sport steering wheel Armrest with storage Dual cup holder unit on console swivels for convenience (see photos) Distinctive Turbo S touches such as: special nose piece and rear body panel, interior design, stainless steel pedals with rubber inserts History: I bought this car second-hand from a VW dealer in November 2006 for nearly $15,000; it only had 15,640 miles by then (see dealer's bill of sale and odometer disclosure). I have been traveling a lot, and the car continued to be used sparingly. It is not in showroom condition, but it's pretty close for being 8 years old. The few scratches and scuffs (mostly on the "bumpers") don't jump out at you - as you can see from the photos, it presents itself extremely well. The nose piece was replaced in 2007 due to a low-speed run-in with a red-light-running pick-up truck; the body work was outstanding (the engine and rest of the front end were unaffected). The tires (Continental ProContact) are nearly new; I installed a new DieHard battery last July, so it's only 4+ months old. The water pump needed to be replaced a year ago due to one broken impeller, so I had the timing belt done at the same time - you won't have to think about a timing belt for another 80,000 miles. Known nit-picks: small front lower plastic grille is missing and right fog light is not working (these problems and some scuffs near them resulted from a plastic orange construction "barrel" in the travel lanes on I-95); also, passenger door only opens from the inside - this happened on the driver's side in 2007 and the dealer fixed it for me for free. As mentioned above, this could be a bargain. I checked 2002 Beetle Turbo listings on Ebay today. There are 5, but 2 are turbo diesels. Of the other 3, one is a Turbo S with 100,000 miles that needs body work ($4,500), one is a regular Turbo with 81,000 miles ($5,500), and one is a regular Turbo with 31,000 miles ($7,500). I reserve the right to end the auction early as car is available for sale locally. A $250 non-refundable deposit via PayPal is due within 12 hours after auction closes. Failure to furnish deposit on time will result in issuance of "Second Chance" offers to other bidders. The balance is due by 1 PM Tuesday, November 30, 2010 (see 2nd paragraph above). Buyer must pick the car up in Baltimore, MD; however, if a ride home for me is provided by buyer, I can deliver the car up to 25 miles away. Good luck, and thanks for checking out my Turbo S!
