Vehicle Detail

Up for bid is a 1973 MGB GT. It is a 4 speed with overdrive I purchased this car in 1984. I am the third owner of this vehicle. It has not been on the road since 1999. The car is in very good shape. The floor pans and wheel wells are fairly solid. The original owner had the car undercoated and it really served its purpose. I never drove this car in the winter (I had an old VW Bug for that). Nevertheless there is a small rust hole inside the driver's side footwell, near where the driver's left foot rests. There are also some small rust holes and bubbles in the rocker panels. The battery box is starting to deteriorate) but still does its job. Otherwise the floors, doors, engine compartment, and cargo area are all reasonably sound. There are miscellaneous dings and nicks on the body, but nothing major. Before I purchased the car the previous owner told me that it had been in an accident. There is evidence of repair on the right quarter panel, near the front left headlight, and the front of the hood. I'm sure that portions of the car had been repainted because there are no emblems or badges on this car. I bought the car despite these pre-existing conditions because it ran well, sounded good, had those cool gauges, and it was in my price range. The driver side mirror is cracked and there is a moderate crease on top of the right front fender. Both of these items are casualties of storage and my clumsy family. The long line of discoloration on that is visible in the picture was from something that was stored on top of the car. It may or may not come off with a little elbow grease. The bumpers are pitted but still shine. The engine hasn't been started since 1999. The car has a rebuilt cylinder head with approximately 2000 miles on it. (The rebuilt head either came from The Roadster Factory or Sports & Classics...I don't remember which.) Other than that, the engine is the same as when I got it. I don't know if this car originally came with pollution control components. If it did, they're not there now. The fuel pump on the car is relatively new. There is no battery in the car and I haven't tried to start it. My dad was sweeping under the car several years ago and accidently hit the gas tank plug which proceeded to fall out and leak gasoline all over the garage floor. I put the plug back in but it really should be repaired properly. I don't think it's supposed to fall out that easily. The engine turns over freely by hand and as the saying goes, the car ran well when it was parked. The carbs will probably need to be cleaned out but I often had to do this when putting the car back on the road in the spring (the floats would get stuck). The interior of the car has some defects. The dash has a crack on the right side, but is pretty good everywhere else. The gauges and switches are all there and are in good shape. The big MG steering wheel is in good shape as well. The center console is missing the latch and is held secure by velcro. The car has an aftermarket am-fm stereo cassette player but the cassette player does not work. The hand brake lever is a little loose but still operates as expected so I never bothered to fix it. The passenger-side seat fabric is worn, and there is a small hole in the seat. The cover on the driver-side seat back has been replaced, but the driver-side seat bottom is just covered by an old towel. The rear seat bottom was not in the car when I purchased it, but the rear seat back is there and is in decent shape. The carpet under the hatch, and the inner rear panels, are discolored and dried out from the sun. The inside door panels are okay, but show some wear on the bottom. There are some scratches on the windshield, passenger side. It looks like they were made by a broken wiper blade. They were there when I got the car and are not in the normal field of vision. The magnesium wheels are branded BWA. Three of them are newer and shiny. But one of them is older and does not have a clear-coat finish like the other 3. (I have seen these wheels for sale on e-bay.) The four tires have good tread but they have been sitting for a while and might have flat spots or dry rot. I have 4 stock MG wheels and they are included in this auction. I have never used them so do not know if they are straight or not. I held onto this car with the intention of handing it over to one of my nephews. Unfortunately none of them developed an interest in it. My dad needs the space in his garage, so away it goes. I really enjoyed this little car. I'm hoping someone out there can also appreciate it. The reserve price is very low. I have described this car to the best of my knowledge. There may be other minor defects on the car that I have not included. Please view the pictures. I took a lot of pictures, so send a note if there's something else you would like to see. Since the car has been parked since 1999 it is being sold as-is. Any questions? Please ask. The car is in Newburgh NY 12550 and will need to be transported.
