THIS IS A FLORIDA TITLED 1953 SUPERCHARGED MG TD. THE CAR STARTS ON THE BUTTON EVERYTIME. I HAVE NEED TO SELL IT DUE TO SOME PERSONAL ISSUES SO I'VE DECIDED TO LIST IT. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR THE PERFECT MG TD SHOWCAR THIS IS NOT IT. IT HAS HAD AND RETAINS SOME VERY UGLY BUT STURDY WELD REPAIRS TO THE FRAME, THE PANEL FIT LEAVES A WHOLE LOT TO BE DESIRED AND IT HAS A PAINT JOB THAT LOOKS GOOD FROM ABOUT 10' BACK. NOT SURPRISINGLY IT LEAKS OIL FROM THE BACK OF THE ENGINE AND FROM THE OIL PUMP-THOUGH IT HAS FANTASTIC OIL PRESSURE AS EVERYTHING IN AND ON THE CAR IS VIRTUALLY NEW OR NEW OLD STOCK (NOS), EVERYTHING. AS YOU CAN SEE, IT HAS AN ALUMINUM INTERIOR INCLUDING CUSTOM SEATS WITH HAND MADE LEATHER CUSHIONS. THERE IS NO SOFT TOP AND AS I'VE KNOWN THE CAR IT NEVER HAD ANY. ALL WOOD IS NEW. THE ENGINE: TOTALLY REBUILT FROM THE ORIGINAL BARE BLOCK 100THOUSANDTHS OVERBORE, CUSTOM PISTONS SOURCED IN AUSTRALIA, NEW CRANE CAM FROM MOSS, NEW HI-PO MOSS LIFTERS. CRANK BALANCED AND AS I RECALL .10 AND .20 ON THE JOURNALS. PROFESSIONALLY AND TOTALLY REBUILT ORIGINAL MARSHAL J75 SUPERCHARGER, DONE BY A WELL KNOWN EAST COAST EXPERT CONCERNING MARSHALLS. POLISHED AND PORTED CYLINDER HEAD WITH LARGER MK II VALVES AND RACING SPRINGS. ENGLISH SOURCED DERRINGTON HEADERS. NEW 1 1/2" SU AND CHROME FILTER. AN SU FUEL PUMP IS IN PLACE BUT A FACET,NEVER-BREAK FUEL PUMP DOES THE PUMPING. RARE ALUMINUM VALVE COVER. NEW TIMING CHAIN AND TENSIONER. THE EXHAUST RUNS STRAIGHT OUT TO THE OFF SIDE (RIGHT SIDE) SIDE PIPE. IT HAS A NICE SOUND. THE CLUTCH IS ALL NEW AND THE FLYWHEEL IS A ONE-OFF ALUMINUM WITH TITANIUM FACE BY FIDANZA IN OHIO (ALMOST $1700). THE CLUTCH IS SUPERB. THE GEARBOX HAS STARTED TO MAKE A "CLATTERING" NOISE WHEN THE CAR IS MOVED OFF SWIFTLY. OTHERWISE IT'S QUIET. THE REMAINDER OF THE GEARS ARE ALL QUIET THERE ARE NOS ANDREX DAMPERS ON THE FRONT THAT I SOURCED IN NEW ZEALAND. THE FRONT SUSPENSION HAS BEEN REBUILT AS HAVE THE SHOCKS NOS SHOCKS ON THE REAR. I HAVE A NEW SET OF REAR SPRINGS THAT WILL GO WITH THE CAR. THE BIG GAUGES ARE REBUILT CHRONOMETRIC AND WORK SUPERBLY. EVRYTHING WORKS EXCEPT CIGAR LIGHTER AND AMPMETER, HOWEVER THE GENERATOR IS A NEW MOSS UNIT AS IS CONTROL BOX. NEW WIRING HARNESS. I DON'T DRIVE IT AND HAVE LESS THAT 100 MILES ON IT. MY FEET ARE WAY TOO BIG; AND A FAST CAR THAT ONE CANNOT CONTROL ADEQUATELY MAKES FOR A DANGEROUS SITUATION. I WILL ADD THINGS AS I THINK OF THEM. THE RESERVE IS NOT A WHOLE LOT MORE THAN THE SUM OF A FEW OF THE GOODIES DESCRIBED ABOVE. THE SUPERCHARGER WAS VERY VERY EXPENSIVE. I HAVE A NY PHONEBOOKS WORTH OF RECEIPTS. I RUN THE CAR ON THE IMSA FUEL CELL, HOWEVER THE REGULAR FUEL TANK IS NO PROBLEM, JUST NOT HOOKED IN. THE HALDA SPEEDPILOT IS NOS AND IS $1200 EXTRA IF YOU WANT IT. THE HANHART CLOCKS GO WITH IT AS DOES THE GENUINE IVORY SNOOKER BALL GEAR SHIFT. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN RACED OR ABUSED. I'M QUITE SIMPLY THE POOR VILLAGE DOC DOWN HERE IN NORTH FLORIDA LOCAL PICK-UP AND NO WARRANTIES ARE IMPLIEDOn Nov-18-10 at 12:05:22 PST, seller added the following information: MORE THOUGHTS: IT HAS AN ELECTRICAL SECONDARY FAN MOUNTED IN FRONT OF THE RADIATOR AND CONTROLLED BY A SIMPLE SWITCH IN THE GENUINE MG UNDER DASH PANEL. THE CAR NEVER OVERHEATS. PLEASE NOTICE THE 1920'S BENTLEY STYLE RADIATOR CAP, IT DOES A WONDERFUL JOB AND COST A HANDFUL. I HAVE THE OVERFLOW LINE FROM THE RADIATOR STEALTHILY WINDING UP TO THE TOOL BOX, WHERE INSIDE IS HIDDEN A SMALL 1 1/2 QT ALUMINUM TANK WITH A STANDARD OVERFLOW LINE LEADING OUT FROM THERE. IT'S ALL NICELY HIDDEN THE RADIATOR WAS/IS NEW WITH UNDER 100 MILES ON IT. RIGHT NOW ONLY THE IMSA TYPE FUEL CELL IS PLUMBED IN. I LOST A DEAR FAMILY MEMBER IN A VEHICLE FIRE AND HE COULDN'T GET OUT. THE IMSA CELL IS EASILY REMOVED FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND AS I RECALL 8 STANDARD SIZED HOLE CAPS WILL RESTORE THE "BOOT" OF THE CAR TO A STORAGE AREA. THE ORIGINAL GAS TANK HAS A NEW SENDING UNIT INSTALLED AND WIRED INTO THE LOOM. THE BOOST GAUGE TO THE LEFT OF THE STEERING WHEEL WORKS AND IS FROM A WWII SUPERCHARGED SPITFIRE FIGHTER THE DASH LOOKS A LITTLE INCONGRUOUS, AND I MEANT IT TO BE SLIGHTLY BENTLEYESQUE. THE DISTRIBUTOR: IS A GENUINE 1950'S VINTAGE NOS MALLORY DUAL POINT RACING UNIT AND IS NOT A MODERN REPOP. THE DISTRIBUTOR CAP IS BAKELITE. I DO HAVE MODERN WIRES RUNNING TO THE STANDARD PLUGS. THE VALVE COVER HAS A MONZA TYPE CAP. CURRENTLY THE CAR IS RUNNING ROYAL PURPLE OIL. OIL FILTER CONVERSION KIT INSTALLED. TIRES: FIRESTONE BIAS PLY REDLINES AS I RECALL. THE FRONTS ARE SLIGHTLY SMALLER THAN THE REARS. ALL HAVE 100%TREAD. THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS NEW FROM THE MASTER CYLINDER ON BACK. ALL NEW LINES, 6 NEW CYLINDERS AND 8 NEW SHOES. ALL BLED AND WORKING WELL. THE WHITE RACING ROUNDELS ARE NOT PAINTED ON, THEY ARE SIMPLY MAGNETIC AND EASILY PEELED OFF. I'LL TRY AND ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS TO THE BEST OF MY ABILITY. IT ONLY CLATTERS IN 1ST GEAR. IF THE CAR MOVES OFF SLOWLY, THERE IS NO CLATTERING, AND UPWARD SHIFTING IS DONE AS USUAL IF THE CAR IS DRIVEN OFF QUICKLY, IT ONLY CLATTERS IN 1ST GEAR. AS IT IS THE ENGINE HAS ENOUGH TORQUE TO QUITE EASILY MOVE OFF IN 2ND GEAR ALL OF THE TIME. THE OTHER GEARS, INCLUDING REVERSE, ARE NOT AFFECTED. THE SEATS AND GEARBOX AND DRIVESHAFT TUNNEL ARE EASILY REMOVED FROM THE CAR IN 20-30 MINUTES. I THINK THAT THERE IS PLENTY OF ROOM TO TAKE THE GEARBOX OUT REARWARD INTO THE COCKPIT. I KNOW THAT ALL BUT 2 BELL HOUSING BOLTS ARE EASILY REMOVED FROM INSIDE THE CAR WITHOUT DIFFICULTY. OF COURSE THE SHIFTER HOUSNG HAS TO FIRST BE REMOVED ANYHOW. NO BIG DEAL. THE CAR HAS THE "MOSS MOTORS" REAR MAINSEAL MODIFICATION. IT WAS A MISTAKE AND IS EASILY UNDONE. AFTER IT PASSED TO THE 2ND OWNER IT WAS DRIVEN FOR SEVERAL YEARS BUT WAS EVENTUALLY LAYED UP FOR A LONG TIME DURING WHICH THE FRAME SUFFERED THE MOST DUE TO THE HUMID WET WEATHER OF FLORIDA, HENCE THE UGLY WELD REPAIRS TO MAINLY THE DRIVER SIDE LONGITUDINAL BOX SECTION BEHIND THE COCKPIT. I MEASURED IT MANY TIMES TO DETERMINE IF EVERYTHING WAS STILL SQUARE, ETC, AND IT ALWAYS CAME UP EVEN, SO IT WAS LEFT ALONE. I GROUND DOWN A LITTLE OF THE UGLIEST WELDS AND USED FILLER TO HIDE SOME AS WELL. BUT THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT THE FRAME IS STRONG AND TRUE. A FRONTAL PIC OF THE RADIATOR CAP ALSO IMAGES THE CHROMED RADIATOR SURROUND. IT'S SIMPLY DIRTY AND POLISHES UP EASILY TO A NICE SHINE. IT CARRIES IT'S ORIGINAL CHROME PLATING. THE REAR VIEW DESMO MIRROR AND SOME OTHER SMALL PARTS WERE REPLATED BY GRAVES PLATING IN ALABAMA. THE BUCKET SEATS IN THE CAR ARE RECLINED ABOUT 5 DEGREES REARWARD. THEY ARE NON ADJUSTABLE. ADJUSTMENT FOR SHORTER DRIVERS WOULD SIMPLY CALL FOR THE REMOVAL OF THE 4 SECURING SCREWS AND MOVING THE SEAT ON IT'S CUSTOM MADE BAS FORWARD. I WOULD SAY THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL INCHES TO PLAY WITH, AND THE BASE ITSELF IS EASILY UNBOLTED FROM THE FLOOR IF MORE SHORTENING IS DESIRED. A FEW TIMES WHEN IN 2ND TO 3RD GEAR, I HAVE SHARPLY ACCELERATED, BRING THE MARSHAL J75 SUPERCHARGER INTO PLAY, AND I WOULD DESCRIBE THE ENGINE RESPONSE AS FIERCE WITH A SOUND ALL IT'S OWN. CONSIDERING IT'S LIGHT BUILD, IT IS CERTAINLY BEYOND MY LIMITED SKILLS TO TRULY DRIVE IT FAST. IT MAY BE OVERPOWERED, ESPECIALLY WHEN ONE CONSIDERS THAT IT IS AN ASH FRAME WITH SIMPLE SHEET METAL CLAD OVER IT, AND THE TIRES ARE BIAS BELTED.
