Vehicle Detail

Thanks for coming to check out this auction! I have an excellent reputation & positive feedback rating on eBay, so you can bid with confidence on my items. Please be sure to read the entire description and view all of the super-sized photos of the vehicle before placing your bids. Thank you. Note: this is a No Reserve auction!!! Shown here is my 1958 Oldsmobile Dynamic Eighty-Eight Holiday Hardtop with 28,678 actual miles on it! Someone re-painted the white roof, but otherwise the car is still wearing all of its 52 year old factory metallic blue paint! It's a bit faded, but I really think it would shine back up to a nice high-gloss lustre with a high-speed buffer! This car has every single option that I'm aware was available for a Dynamic 88! Perhaps the most unique option is that it has the "Trans-Portable" removable personal radio...and it still WORKS! For some reason, the wires are unhooked for the power seat presently, but otherwise every accessory on this car is in working order...right down to the heater fan motor, and all the interior light bulbs. ... Read on... This car has the 371 cubic inch, 265 horsepower V8 engine with 4 barrel carburetor, and it runs very smoothly & powerfully! It's really kind of comical that a big old heavy car like this actually has decent accelleration, but this thing is no pooch! It'll set you in the back of your seat a bit, and cruise just great at 80mph all day long. It doesn't smoke, tick, knock or exhibit any other engine issues. The exhaust is in good shape, and the motor sounds nice & healthy making a pleasant, low, mellow rumble (yet definitely not obnoxiously loud). The transmission shifts smoothly and firmly as it should. Amazingly, the brakes (though they are 4-wheel drums) stop the car very well with absolutely no pull to either side (which is almost unheard of in my experience with 50+yr old automobiles!). They are power-brakes, and additionally the car has pinky-finger-easy-to-steer power steering (I wish today's cars steered that easily)... I just love that. All of the glass is good except for the little wing-vent window on the passenger side which has a crack in it (shown in one close up shot). All of the windows roll up and down smoothly just as they should. Perhaps the coolest thing about this car is that it's a "hardtop" model, so there's no side-window pillar posts... when you roll all 4 windows down, it's just all open-air out to each side of the car which is both aesthetically pleasing from the outside, as well as a fun riding-experience on nice, warm days (especially if you're a back-seat passenger). The interior appears to have been partially re-done at some point in the past, and is still in remarkably nice condition! The front seat is splitting apart at the seam on the driver's side as is typical wear. The dash is basically perfect with no cracks or discoloration anywhere! The gas and brake pedals don't exhibit any excessive wear (another testiment that the low mileage is original). All of the chrome is super nice on the dash & other interior appointments. The carpet is nice as well. The tires are modern radials (in good shape with plenty of tread remaining). The wide whitewalls are just port-a-walls, but they look great, and don't flap or wrinkle up whatsoever. It's a great way to have the classic look without spending $1,000 on a set of Coker wide whites. The car is wearing all of it's original rust (which is very little). The hoods on these '58 Oldsmobiles always collected dirt & moisture up under the lip of the inner lining up front, so there are a few pin-holes up there. Also, there's a little rust starting on the bottoms of both front fenders, as well as on the rocker panels, and a very little bit on the quarters just above the rear tires. Considering most roads were gravel back in the '50s, it's a wonder that cars lasted as long as they even did! This one is a TRUE survivor, indeed. Furthermore... there are no dents on the car that I can find (which is amazing). Also... there is of course absolutely NO BONDO anywhere on the car's body. All of the chrome is nice, but unfortunately the right rear bumper corner had a little rust on it, so the previous owner hacked it off with a torch (before realizing that the extra one in the trunk was for the OTHER side...grrr.). I do have an entire extra rear bumper assembly, but it's from a Ninety-Eight model, so it's got the extra reverse lights on each side... still if you re-chromed it... it would bolt right on, and solve the bumper issue. You may have noticed that there is also an extra piece of Ninety-Eight stainless-steel trim above the side-windows with the louvers. He just thought that looked nice, and had the piece... so installed it. You could take it back off if you are an originality purist, but I like it & think it's tasteful, myself. This car is road-worthy, and I'd say you could fly out and drive it home if need be! I have a tiny bit of interesting documentation with the car (for one; see picture of the break-in schedule on the inside of the glove-box door). This vehicle has obviously been well maintained & garaged most of its life, and even still wears some of its gold paint on the engine. The Old Cars Price Guide states that in #3 condition, this car is worth $11,000, and in #4 condition is worth: $5,000.00. I'd say that this car is between a #3 & a #4 car in condition. I've priced it at significantly less than it's worth, so you've got an excellent opportunity to own a great American Classic from a company (Oldsmobile) which now no longer exists! This car is definitely collectible, and quite rare (they made 53,036 four door hardtops originally...who knows how many still exist today?). It was built in an era when too much was not enough! The '58 Olds holds the title of being "The Chrome King of All Cars"! I've started out the opening bid on the listing for this car at a very fair price with no reserve, so be sure to get your bid in on it with adequate time before the auction is over. Use a bid-snipe service if you have to, but don't miss out if you'd like to own this car! Even one early bid ensures that it won't be taken off eBay before the end of aucton, so please keep that in mind. IMPORTANT, please read! ** I'm an easy to work with guy, but please let me be absolutely clear in stating my selling policy: By bidding on this item (or otherwise agreeing to purchase the vehicle), you acknowledge that it is being sold AS IS with no warranty, and that I require a $250.00 security deposit via PayPal or money order sent to myself: Jesse Wunderlich, 15791 Nettle Ave., within 5 days of auction’s end, and the remaining balance of the vehicle is to be paid for in full within 10 days. If coming to pick it up in person, then I ask that you bring cash for the remainder of payment, otherwise if having the vehicle shipped, a Wells Fargo, US Bank or Bank of America cashier’s check is acceptable. If you can’t get the vehicle picked up right away, storage for a reasonable amount of time may be an option, but please ask before you bid, and remember that the vehicle must be paid for in full within 10 days of auction’s end whether it has been picked up yet or not. The reason I request National Chain banks is that I can go right down to one of our local branches here in Mason City and cash the note right away without having to wait for a 10 day hold from another bank. This way, I can just send the title right out to you, and there’s no waiting for funds to clear. This helps with those having a vehicle transported as well, because naturally I cannot release a vehicle to an auto shipper if the payment is not cleared. Thanks for your cooperation and understanding. ANY0NE FAILING T0 PAY THE DEPOSIT, 0R WH0 D0ESN'T PAY FOR THEIR ITEM W0N AT AUCTI0N WITHIN THE SPECIFIED TIMEFRAME I REQUIRE; W1LL M0ST CERTA1NLY RECE1VE A N0N PAY1NG B1DDER MARK...the item will be re-listed... and I will b1ock them from bidding on any of my future auctions. eBay suspends members after 2 N0N-PAY1NG B1DDER STR1KES. Also, please note, security deposits are considered non-refundable. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. If you intend to have this vehicle shipped with a car carrier, the auto transporters I have contact info for are as follows: Atlas Auto Transport (888)285-2706, David Irving 763-441-3796, Larry Baker 605-484-6949 There’s also one called D.A.S. (Dependable Auto Shippers) with a shipping dock out of Altoona, Iowa (about 2&½ hours from us here in Mason City) 800 826-1083. DAS has some finicky policies such as no contents in the car other than what will fit in the trunk (i.e. an extra bumper & parts), and they won’t dribble gas into a carburetor or jump start a battery to get a car started without charging you an additional fee (even if it’s 20 below zero outside), so beware of this kind of thing with them.
