Vehicle Detail

Over the past 18 years our family has used this Vanagon for daily driving plus "weekend duty" of taking us camping across PA & beyond while pulling a small pop-up camper along with our canoe on the van roof rack, or pulling a motorcycle trailer. It remains a super vehicle. - Tornado Red; original paint. Very clean - per our photos. - Seats 7 w/ belts (2 in front; 2 removable, single, rear-facing jump seats, 3 on the folddown rear bench seat with removeable headrests). The bench seat lays out for the bed which measures 72" long x 60" wide. It's also handy for hauling sheets of plywood, appliances, etc. - Wolfsburg Edition - Westfalia Weekender Package (= 2 removable jump seats, fold-down table, sleeping area, table light, all 4 OEM privacy curtains with original bag). - Odometer: 153,829 miles and counting. Always garage kept. - Auto trans. (3 speed), rear wheel drive, 4-cylinder, 2.1 liter, fuel-injected, regular gasoline, water-cooled engine; we usually get 17-20 mpg. - Cruise control, OEM tool kit with original bag, original Operator Manuals, 3 spare engine belts, original carpet & upholstery throughout. - Manufactured 2/1990; we purchased it used from a PA VW dealer in 6/1992 with 34,823 miles. - Detailed maintenance spreadsheet (with paper receipts) since 6/1992. - PA state inspections (safety and emissions) valid through 8/31/2011. - Plus 1 pair of snow tires (mounted on steel wheels, w/ hubcaps). - OEM sound system (4 speakers, AM/FM/Cassette), works like new. - OEM VW alloy wheels (5, including the full-size spare). - Genuine VW Parts Fiche Set, complete (but good luck finding a fiche reader anymore...) - Custom roof racks & 3 ratchet straps (for a canoe. Sorry, canoe not included). - Category I Trailer Hitch, 2" ball, wiring harness installed (4-prong flat). - Mini-blinds (1 pair), gray; Genuine VW Front Bra. - 4 Hankook RA08 Radial tires (size R185R14C) in use for 5,300 miles. - Fishing rod rack (ceiling mounted). Known Issues (it's 20 years old!): - Engine replaced in 2000 (at 95,000 miles) with a VW-certified, rebuilt longblock. - Has a minor antifreeze weep at head gasket. It's been doing so since 2003 with no sign of any internal leaks per (1) the small, monthly top-off quantity and (2) the advice of our longtime VW mechanic. - Air conditioner no longer cools; uses (the old-style) R12 freon. - Transaxle/differential replaced with a used unit in Sept. and it works great. The original unit will be provided with this van at transfer (since the original auto trans section was fine). - Areas developing body rust (but no rust-thru): immediately behind LF wheel well & at each front door stepwell (see photos). These areas will need some attention in the next few years. - The original paint / clearcoat, while in remarkable shape, is not perfect; your in-person inspection will show the imperfections that have developed over the years. The 10-day auction is intended to provide bidders with time to arrange an inspection (by appointment via a "contact member" email). Reason for selling: We've moved on to motorcycle touring / camping. IMPORTANT NOTICES: 1. The Reserve and the Starting Bid are based upon current NADA values. 2. A $500 deposit (via PayPal* only) is required within 24 hours of auction closing. If the PayPal* deposit is not received in full within 24 hours, we reserve the right to re-list the vehicle, sell it to the next high bidder, or sell it otherwise. 3. Full payment (via Paypal*, certified check or cash) within 10 calendar days of auction closing. * The bidder is solely responsible for paying the PayPal fees associated with any credit/debit card payments; we must refuse any PayPal payments without those fees paid by the bidder. Use the PayPal bank transfer option instead (no fees). 4. No "off-line" transactions will be accepted. 5. The title & key transfers will proceed only after all funds are clear, released & available to the seller. 6. Delivery is not offered or provided; delivery is solely up to the buyer to arrange. 7. This vehicle is offered "as is" - no warranty is offered or implied. Watch / listen to the video below for the van's engine operation. Thanks for looking.
