Vehicle Detail
2001 BMW 540i- Up for sale is my wife's 2001 Midnight Blue 540i. We have truly loved this car and we will be sad to see it go... child number three is officially on the way, and the back seat is just not practical for three car seats. We have had great success at selling our last several cars here on eBay with no reserve auctions, so mark and clear your calendars next Thursday at 7:00 PM Mountain Time this auction will end and the car will be sold to the high bidder. I will do my best to accurately describe the car's condition, but please contact me if you have specific questions that I not address below. History- This has been my wife's car for the past 5 years. We are the second owners. We purchased it here on eBay from the original owner, who was a traveling sales rep. He put on the first 115K miles in only 4 years! He told us it was completely BMW serviced before and after the 4 year 50,000 mile warranty expired, and that all the BMW recommended maintenance was performed on schedule. After I purchased the car (but before it was delivered) I called his local BMW dealership and they verbally verified the maintenance history but said that BMW policy prevents them from releasing copies of the service work to anyone else than the customer (the now former owner), because of privacy laws. I didn't push the issue. Since we have owned it we have continued the BMW recommended service schedule, but at my preferred mechanic's shop, Import Auto Center in Provo, Utah. The last major service, what BMW calls service II, was performed at 160K miles. This car has been very dependable, in fact we have never had it on a tow truck. We are not selling it or trading it to a dealer in an effort to pass on foreseeable repair items. Exterior- The paint has great shine, and I love the color. It is a very dark blue with a metallic effect to give it depth. It does have the typical minor rock chips on the hood and bumper. Overall I would rate it an 8 out of 10. There is a good sized (quarter sized, if that make sense) door ding on the driver's side fender (see pic below). Also the windshield has a crack also shown in the picture below. It is very low in the windshield, near the wipers. The crack has finished spreading and it does not effect visibility at all. As our major freeway is under construction for the next two years I was holding off replacing it as I figured we were likely to get another crack at some point. Other than those two issues no other blemishes are visible from beyond 10 feet. Two years ago I had the wheels powder coated as the original paint on the wheels was showing signs of wear. The powder coat is excellent, and very easy to clean. I haven't manually touched the wheels since, just hit them with the hose... but from the pictures it looks like it is time to actually wipe our the corners and crevices. Also, I had the windows tinted, the pictures are pretty self explanatory, it is not too dark, but does keep the sun out of the kids' eyes. Interior- The interior is grey, it really goes great with the exterior color. And the grey stays cool in the summer. Overall I rate the interior condition at an 8 out of 10. The main issue is the driver's seat bolster is showing wear, as depicted in the pictures. It is not cracked or split, just the surface dye is worn. I purchased new black M-Sport floor mats a few years ago, but the original grey floor mats are included as shown in the trunk picture. Electrical- Everything works. Windows, sunroof, lights (xenon), radio, keyless entry, on board computer... everything works properly with one common exception, the pixel display. As nearly every E39 (or E38 for that matter), it has the pixel display issue. Although it did hold out longer than I expected, only developing the issue about 1.5 years ago. See the Pics. Mechanical- It's solid. No problems. With the proper maintenance these cars will last a very long time. Fully synthetic Mobile 1 5W-30 and premium octane gas is all this car has ever been fed. As stated before, this car has been great for us, and I have no doubt it will continue to be great for you. Options- These cars come standard with pretty much everything. I'm not an expert on what is or is not an option from BMW, with that said, this car has power everything, sun/moon roof, heated seats, memory seats, steering wheel and mirrors, auto rain sensing wipers, xenon lights, and the M-Sport package. It is my understanding that the M-package includes the sport seats, M-sport wheel (with all the buttons you need on the steering wheel), the sport wheels, and a sport suspension (besides tighter handling, it also gives the car a slightly lower ride hight, giving it a more aggressive stance). Value- If you will be getting a loan to purchase the car, below are the NADA and KBB value estimates that your lender will use to justify and help determine a reasonable loan amount. NADA values the car between $6,925 - $10,025 (Trade in vs. Retail)KBB values the car between $7,890 - $9,890 (Private Party vs. Retail) According to these values ($6,925 - $10,025) the monthly payment could be between $128 - $178 a month. This is a lot of car for that low of a payment! FYI, I calculated the loan terms as a 60 month loan at 4.25% interest rate. Sale Terms- The winning bidder should contact me soon after the auction's end to arrange for payment and delivery. I will only acept certified funds, and I will not release the car until the funds have cleared. This means I need to verify with my bank that your check is good, so if you plan on hand delivering a check and picking up the car at the same time, my bank needs to be open (regular business hours, and Saturday 9-Noon). So please plan accordingly. I'm very familiar with buying and selling cars on eBay. If it is your first time I can walk you through the process, it is really quite simple. And if you plan on having the car transported I can recommend some good auto transport companies that I have used in the past. PLEASE do not bid unless your are ready, willing, and financially able to purchase the car. This is a no reserve auction. I'm not going to consider offers to sell the car early, please just bid the price you would be willing to pay. Thanks, and happy bidding.
