He died in 2003 and passed the car to my wife. We brought the car to our home in Fairfax, Virginia in 2005 – and decided to restore it mechanically. (George had taken care of the exterior.) The Impala restoration was a family project, being overseen by my Dad, who is a master mechanic. (He operated an auto repair service for 43 years.) Also on the Impala team was me (I spent 15 years in Dad’s business) and my 16 year old son. We took this very-big job “slow and easy” – and everything was done right. We gave the Impala a “sporty-edge” for my son. The wheels are very sharp; the exhaust has a nice V-8 growl – but not too loud. My son and I have loved driving this car since we finished the restoration in Fall 2006. It is indeed a “driver” and we have put 8,200 miles on it since then. It has been garaged here in Virginia too. The reason we’re selling is that I have just bought myself a retirement gift – the car I have long dreamed of. I need the Impala’s garage bay for “my new baby.” Also, my son is graduating from college, and like many things in kids’ lives, his interest in the Impala has dropped off. On Oct-18-10 at 09:30:12 PDT, seller added the following information: I now have 19 photos available of the car's undercarriage. If you give me your email address, I will send then to you. Also - I forgot to mention the you-tube video that my son made of the car's exhaust system last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nnpb2OcznQ On Oct-19-10 at 05:40:49 PDT, seller added the following information: Answers to more questions: My reserve price is $6,000.00. Yes, I will sell internationally. No, this car has not had a body-off restoration. As is seen in the photographs, there is rust damage in the trunk floor/wheel well areas, which needs repair. Car is running on Mobil 1 synthetic oil 10-30W and was serviced last week. The headliner is in near-perfect condition. No, the clock is not working. Yes, the original two barrel carburetor, intake manifold and air filter assembly are included in the deal, as are many old parts (wheels, radiator, gas tank, brake assemblies).
