Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is a unique 1964 Chevrolet Corvair Monza four-door sedan. I am the second owner of this vehicle. I purchased it from the original owner in Delhi, NY in November of 1995. The car was originally sold out of Roosevelt Chevrolet in Queens, NY ... in the shadow of Shea Stadium. The World's Fair plate that is on the car was on my grandmother's 1960 Corvair, interestingly enough, she lived in Little Neck, Queens. The plate is not for sale. The car has been modified for road course racing, time trials and autocross. This car has competed in the following events: Lime Rock Time Trials 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2006 & 2007. The car has repeatedly won 1st place in the Improved Stock I & II classes. In 2007, the car turned a 1:13.54 on the 1.53 mile road course. CORSA National Convention autocross class winner in 1997 (Lake Placid) and 2006 (Buffalo). 2nd place in class at Mosport International Speedway, Ontario in 2006. 2nd place in class at BeaveRun Motorsports Complex near Pittsburgh, 2005. It has also won several trophies in local autocrosses and other road course events. The car is also not hard on the eyes, and attracts a lot of attention at local cruise nights and car shows. Though it is by no means in concours condition, people truly appreciate the car, and have voted it 3rd in class at the 2006 CORSA National Convention, and 3rd in class at the 2008 Clark's Corvair Show in Shelburne Falls, MA. (It's also a blast to drive locally when the cops aren't looking. It hauls ass). The mileage on the body is accurate. The mileage on the engine is unknown, but all the most recent work was done in 2005. My guess is there has been fewer than 2,000 miles put on the car since then. The engine is a 1965 Corvair block with .060 overbore Hyper-Eutectic pistons, Clark's re-bored cylinders and lightened, balanced connecting rods. The main bearings were replaced in 2005, and the heads replaced. The heads themselves are totally rebuilt, and de-flashed, shaved, ported, polished and the quench areas modified by a veteran local Corvair guru (Bruce C.). The carbs have been bored, vented, jets relocated and venturis modified by the CarbMeister of Wolf Enterprises. The exhaust are the larger Clark's trombone pipes. They are fairly quiet until you put your foot in it. The engine breathes great. The carbs and linkage are the Otto rotator package to eliminate turn cut-out. There's a high volume oil pump, a finned extra capacity oil pan and the 12 plate oil cooler for additional durability under stress. The car has quick steering arms, a completely rebuilt 4-speed, and a 3:55 transaxle. It has Clark's Heavy Duty springs with about 2 coils chopped out all around. It has Gabriel Striders set on extra firm and provides flat, rock-hard cornering. Street tires are Sumitomo 205/60/13s in excellent shape, and the car will also come with a set of Hoosier 205/60/13 R-compound slicks for the track. ALL the modifications (except tires) are what was generally available to hot-rodders of the 60s, so the car is truly a period vintage racer. It has been recently inspected and is street legal, though the car is happiest breaking the law. The gas tank & sending unit were recently replaced, there are no major leaks, and the car runs like a champ. You can get away with unleaded premium, but octane boost always helps. The car was painted for the first time since the factory in 2005, and was done by a local pro who took his time. He did a great job. There is a little bit of bubbling at the door bottoms, but by no means is this a rust bucket. The floors are original, rock solid, but need to be sanded and painted to address surface rust that has accumulated. There is almost no interior in the car. No carpet, no door panels, no back seat, no package area, no radio, no heater, no nothing. There are two seats, seat belts, a shoulder belt for the driver and a fire extinguisher mounting bracket. No luxury accomodations. Sorry. I've done my best to represent the car truthfully and accurately. It's not a tough car to maintain, but because of its specialized nature, needs to be properly maintained when being driven regularly. I'm happy to answer questions for those who are genuinely interested. Best wishes and Happy Bidding! Follow up: while this is a new eBay account, I am a longstanding eBayer. For personal reasons, I opened a new account. My old account was lostsoul0468, where I had a 100% positive rating for both buying and selling.
