Vehicle Detail
You are looking at the rarest of the rare. A BLACK BEAUTY 1990 Buick Reatta Convertible with low miles, and virtually EVERYTHING WORKS!!! These cars only had two options in 1990. A truly exceptional 14-position drivers seat and a CD player. This car has them both...and they both work. The drivetrain is the legendary Buick 3800 V6 with 4-speed automatic transmission. In this car, the drivetrain is totally solid. On the Ohio turnpike last week, average speed 75mph and 24 miles per gallon. Transmission shifts quietly and solidly at all gears, top fits tight, power windows work flawlessly, cruise control A-OK, and the power seats on both sides work perfect. This 14-position seat is truly unique...look at the pictures and you will see I extended the thigh support...you can get this car stretched out so far you can barely reach the pedals! As you know, there were only about 2,000 of these cars made ever...and they are bringing over $20,000 in perfect shape. That number will only go up as they age due to the small number of them made. But their real value lies in their looks. A simple trip to the grocery store takes an extra 30 minutes as you get stopped with people wanting to look at this black beauty. I have had six Allantes, and this car (1) is better looking and (2) rides substantially better. It just feels heavy and tight. Notice the doors have that bayonet latch you only see on Mercedes SL's and Allantes. The doors close with a clunk. Here's the good news. The following areas work perfectly, which is truly rare in a 20 year old car: Radio, CD, Cruise, Windows, Seats, Engine, Transmission, Four Wheel Anti-Lock Brakes, Goodyear tires nearly new, power antenna (goes up and down all by itself!), automatic temperature control, wipers, rear window (glass) defroster, top latches, front and back...I'm running out of areas to talk about. Now the bad news as well. First time up for the top this month I pulled the seam too hard on the bottom of the window and that will have to be re-glued. The top is totally weather tight (went through a car wash totally dry) but frayed around the edges in a few places. As a collector car, you may want to replace the top sometime (around $450 parts), but me, I just drive these cars with the top down so the top has never been an issue. The air conditioning is NOT blowing cold, but as I said the Automatic Temperature Control works super. The check AC light is on, so it probably needs to be charged. And then the body. There are a few scratches and nicks here and there, like on the headlight covers and one scratch on the drivers door, much like you would expect in a 1990 with original paint. Again, you put $1,000 into a professional paint job on this beauty and the value goes into the teens. Me? I like it the way it is...drive it and enjoy it. Did I mention the smoothness of the drive train or the cornering? I can only describe this as a heavy sports car like an early (1955) Thunderbird. A smooth cruiser with great looks. Further bad news for me and good news for you. Number three kid moving home from Chicago and needs a garage space. My Allante ain't going outside...so the Buick has to go. Sigh. I've only owned this one for less than a month, thought I had space to store it for the winter...but she's gotta go. Hint: In one month I have put 1200 miles on it as a daily driver...can't get enough of the way this car handles and rides! I set the price low and fair due to the back top window and scratches on the paint. Bid with confidence. I've never had an unhappy buyer on Ebay. I set the starting price at $5500 because this car with a new top and new paint is easily worth $11,000. It is a great driver and a toy as it is, but with some work this is truly a collector car. Look at the early Buick brochures. It was always the black Reatta they showcased.
