Vehicle Detail

Bought as a project car to restore, but due to injury/changes in circumstances, am no longer able to continue. New: Timing belt and idler pulley Water pump Coil, distributor cap and rotor Relays: main, O2 sensor, fuel pump Throttle switch Crankshaft Sensor O2 sensor Temp sensors Spark plugs Good: Engine, transmission, final drive are strong and tight Clutch Axles Body is tight with no rust on body panels or hood. Shocks/struts seem tight and functional, along with rest of suspension. Eh? Top looks like a replacement. Rear window is fairly clear, but thread has failed along the top edge. Doesn’t look like it was completely installed, so may be possible to remove, re-sew, and reinstall. Paint is worn, but still shines. Tires have tread, but are mis-matched. One wheel has a ding, but seems to run true. Brakes: no warning light, and don’t pull, but don’t know how much is left on pads. Hoses, belts – I haven’t replaced yet. A/C doesn’t work. Looks like burst discharge hose at compressor. Suprisingly moderate minor dings/dents for 23 years of wear-and-tear. Bad/Ugly: Scrape on right-hand door. Passenger door trim panel was missing. I found one that needs some work. Driver’s seat mechanism is broken, but the replacement part is included. Seat belt receptacle on passenger seat is missing. Minor rust on bottom edge of trunk lid. Broken driving light, right side. M-Technics front air dam has cracks and missing pieces. Interior is shabby. Two cracks in dash in typical locations. Typical split in top of rear seat back. Several tears/wear-through. Modified fuel pump setup. Original main pump was bypassed. Looks like a later vintage in-tank pump was adapted to fit in place of original secondary feed pump. Muffler is toast, and rear hangers are rotted. I wrapped sheet metal around it and wired it up to keep hot exhaust away from heat shield while I was working on driveability problems. Rear wheel bearings aren’t particularly noisy, but I’ve replaced them on other E-30s at about this mileage. Radio doesn’t work. No spare tire or rim. I started tackling driveability issues first, and got it running reasonably well while I was still able to work on it, but there is still an occasional hesitation/miss. Every part I could think of that would associate with erratic missing has been replaced, so I suspect a fault in the engine-to-computer wiring harness, and bought one to install. It has a later (1988 or newer) cooling system –note the expansion tank location. The original expansion tank is in the trunk. I discovered the engine is newer – at least 1988 vintage – when I was replacing the water pump. I’ve tried to note everything I know or suspect, but after looking at it for several years, decided tosell the car as-is,where-is. Up to you to decide whether it’s a project car or a parts car. Spare parts I’ve accumulated: Engine wiring harness New Driver seat mechanism Standard front fairing parts Rocker panel trim pieces Cover panels under hood, behind headlights. Four-spoke steering wheel. Passenger door trim panel. Spare driveshaft center mount/bearing. Final drive from another convertible. Should be the same gear ratio. I may find other parts if I’m able to rummage around this week. Car is also listed locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early.
