Up for consideration is a single-owner Honda Civic Hybrid from 2003. It has about 182,000 miles on it. Highway miles up until about 18 months ago (driven 100 miles roundtrip on major interstate almost daily) - since then we drive it about 100 miles per week. It is an automatic, pretty new tires, Honda floormats, upholstery is in good condition, and the car paint (actually a color known as Shoreline Mist Metallic) is in very good shape, a few dings here or there but rust only in the tire wells and mot much at that. Has been in one front-end accident, in 2004, (my husband rear-ended the car in front of him at a low speed), repaired (see CarFax report). Rear bumper has some cosmetic damage on bumper from someone lurching into it (while this car was parked) with their vehicle. Otherwise just a few minor dings here or there. See the vehicle history report. Car interior (beige) and trunk has been vacuumed. We still drive this car, so the mileage may go up 100 miles or so while this auction is active. We have most of the maintenance records since we purchased it in 2003; generally we used the dealer for parts and service except for body work, brakes and tires. We have had all recommended maintenance done up until the 180,000 mile mark, with oil changes approximately every 5,000 miles. We have replaced the very small battery in the front of the car (a few years ago) but still have the original hybrid battery - dealer says it holds a "good charge." We have not replaced the timing chain because Honda does not recommend it as part of its scheduled maintenance; it also has the original water pump,drive belts except as described below, we really have not replaced much beyond wiper blades, fluids, brake pads (maybe brake rotors, not sure) and tires - this car has treated us great! Now, the not-so-good. The air conditioning unit stopped working earlier this year (per dealer report, "clutch was found burnt with the locking nut overheated/melted"); we had the dealer bypass it by replacing the serpentine belt with a drive belt. The check engine light was on until a week ago when the dealer reset it. The dealer had identified the code as "p1420= NOX ADSORPTIVE CATALYST SYSTEM EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD" code, and said we need a new catalytic converter; based on some internet research it could also be an oxygen sensor or maybe it needs a software upgrade (although it had already been upgraded within the past year) - who knows. Shortly after trying to sell the car last week, the automatic shifting cable started giving us problems, so we brought it to the dealer to have it replaced. When I picked the car up from the dealer on 9/21, the battery had been fully discharged - this has never happened before. The battery charged up to full power within a couple miles. However, about ten miles later the IMA light came on and has been on since. We called the dealer to see if they had done something to affect the car's battery, and they insist they touched nothing that would have discharged the battery so completely or to cause the IMA light to come on. So, bummer. I continue to drive the car, the battery charges as normal, and it seems okay but the IMA light remains on. The NYS inspection sticker expires at the end of September. Rather than work our way through the various options toward repair and regularly scheduled maintenance in order to pass state inspection we have decided to sell.
