Vehicle Detail
Up for sale is our beautiful custom 1973 VW Thing. It is in very good condition paint, motor, transmission and brakes are great. Body is good with little to no rust. Car uses no oil nor leaks any fluids. It has been kept in our garage since we purchased it and only taken out for Sunday drives and family excursions. My wife has always wanted a VW Thing, so I bought a 1971 Thing and started restoring it years ago (it is still in our garage). I got it to a driveable state but just didn't feel it was safe enough to let her drive it with our children. It just didn't have the power, brakes and steering I thought it should, but everyone said this is how the old Things drive. I heard of a custom 1973 VW Thing for sale in Wilmington, NC the owner was a vehicle supplier for the film industry in Wilmington. We went down to drive the Thing and fell in love with it. It is a true driveable custom Thing and drives like a new car.It has a watercooled 1.8 Subaru engine that runs great it also has large four wheel disc brakes and a great heater. We purchased the Thing and drove it home. Since then we have taken it on many trips to the Blue Rdige Parkway, beach and even 700 mile out of state trips. The car never lets us down and runs great even at interstate speeds. It turns heads everywhere we take it and is a true conversation piece. We took it to a VW cruise and show event we had so many people looking at the way it was converted to a watercooled Subaru engine, people were taking photos, crawling under it writing down part numbers etc. We hate to sell it but just need the money to put into a new family SUV. Our Thing is not a show car but is in very good condition it does have a few issues, front seats have some tears (back seats are great) car does have some old weld repairs (only visable from the inside) see photos. The top is good but has one tear near clips, see photos. The windows are usable but all of them need new plastic and 2 of them need frame repairs. Please email any questions the vehicle is sold as is and you are welcome to come look at it before the auction ends. This is a no reserve auction with a starting price of half of what the car is worth. I would not hesitate to drive our Thing across the country. If your wife or kids are wanting a VW Thing and you want a safer more reliable easy to drive Thing then this Thing is for you. Thanks for looking! The photos do not show the paint well, the paint is like new and has a great shine! also the photos make the paint look lighter than it really is.The paint is a high gloss light tan, close to a desert tan.
