Vehicle Detail

FOR SALE 1967 Triumph T120R Bonneville 650cc 1960’s Classic/Period Styling - Engine Rebuilt by World Renown British Bike Builder and Racer, and Current Land Speed Record Holder “Steve Hamel” - (Google Steve’s name for more detail) - 500 Miles Since Total Restoration Graced by one of the most evocative model designations in the history of motorcycling, the Triumph Bonneville owes its existence to record-breaking successes achieved on the eponymous Utah salt flats in 1958, when a Tiger 110 set a new 650cc production machine record of over 147mph. Launched at the Motor Cycle Show in September 1958, the production Bonneville remained recognizably similar to the first Speed Twin of 1938 for the next few years, as did Triumph's other large-capacity twins. Unitary construction of engine and gearbox was already a feature of the 350 and 500 twins though, and that innovation duly appeared on the 650s in 1963. This unit construction model was stiffer and more compact, including additional bracing at the steering head and swing arm. The steering angle was altered and improved forks were fitted a couple of years later, which, together with the improved 12-volt electrics and increased stiffness enabled overall performance to match that of the Bonneville's rivals. The Bonneville’s rapidly became popular, on the race track and on the street, due to its lusty acceleration and a top speed approaching 120 mph. The 1967 T120 won the Production Isle of Man TT in 1967 and 1969. The re-introduction of the Production TT had just taken place in 1967 when John Hartle took first place on his Bonneville. Three years later Triumph set a new landmark in TT history when Malcolm Uphill averaged 100 mph (160 km/h) around the Mountain Course on a Bonneville. Uphill’s achievement was the first time that a production motorcycle had ever passed the three-figure mark from a standing start. Following Uphill's record the Dunlop K81 tires he was using were renamed 'TT100’s. Today, the 1967 Bonneville is considered by investors/collectors as a must for their collection; and considered one of the top Triumphs/Bonneville’s to collect. It employs the 60’s Classic / Period styling that many modern day motorcycle manufacturers, including Triumph, have recently copied in an effort to recapture its excitement on today’s sales floor room. The bike I am offering for sale is a 1967 Triumph T120R Bonneville 650cc. This bike has been treated to a frame-off restoration that included an overhaul of the engine's internals, a new exhaust system, new electrics, new tires, instruments reconditioned, new paint, new wheels, new fenders, new battery, new seat, etc. etc. The tank was repainted in the correct and original 1967 Bonneville color scheme of burgundy over white with gold pinstripe. The engine was built for maximum performance; any enhancements beyond the original manufacturing specifications are transparent and inside the engine. It is a MATCHING NUMBER’S bike and was restored to its original 1967 specification in terms of appearance. It also comes with a clear Minnesota title. The engine was totally rebuilt by world renowned British motorcycle builder and racer Steve Hamel. Steve is known worldwide for his work on British motorcycles and his motorcycle land speed records set at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah. Steve recently broke the long standing motorcycle land speed record of 150.313 mph set in 1948 by Rollie Free; it was done on a Vincent similar to the bike Rollie Free rode in 1948. Steve’s speed was 152.406 mph. Google "Steve Hamel, Bonneville" and you will learn more about Steve and his reputation as a British Bike builder and racer.. As a result of Steve Hamel’s involvement on restoring this Bonneville the bike runs second to none in regard to other stock 1967 Bonneville’s; it starts easy, and runs FAST and smooth. There are no more than about 500 miles on the bike since the completion of the restoration. As you can see from the photos, the bike is beautiful and has the 60’s Classic/Period styling (pear shaped tank, stainless steel fenders, etc.) that manufacturing’s are now trying to duplicate in their newer modern machines. This bike is of show quality, yet was also built to be driven with trouble free enjoyment. THE BIKE HAS LESS THAN 500 MILES SINCE THE RESTORATION. The bike not only is fast and smooth, it’s also very reliable; which is a result of Steve Hamel’s many years of knowledge and experience building and racing classic British Motorcycles. When you start and drive this bike you wonder why in 1967 they couldn’t build it to run as smooth and well as it does now. This bike is priced well below the market value and can be purchased at a reasonable price thus will allow you to own, drive, and show a great piece of motorcycle history. If you do your homework you will see that not only do the Triumph Bonneville’s continue to excel within the motorcycle collector/investment market; but THE 1967 T120R BONNEVILLE IS ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR BONNEVILLES AND/OR BRITISH MOTORCYCLES ON MOST COLLECTORS’ LIST. Many of the Triumph Bonneville’s of this caliber have been selling in the teens, and some of have been penetrating the low 20’s. The collector/investment motorcycle market continues to grow; especially as the stock market and other investments struggle to become secure again. This was again evident at the Pebble Beach Motorcycle Auction a couple weeks ago, especially with the Classic Triumph Motorcycles. Any questions about this vehicle can be addressed through Ebay. REMEMBER – IF YOU EMAIL ME YOUR PHONE NUMBER I WILL BE WILLING TO CALL YOU AND ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE ON THIS VEHICLE On Sep-06-10 at 11:18:24 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDITIONAL INPUT, SUNDAY, SEPTEMBERF 6, 2010 ----------------------------------------------- I was asked what Steve Hamel did or didn't do to the engine. I can assure you everything was redone and is NEW inside the engine. I believe the engine alone ran me over $3,000.00 USD. I should have most of the receipts that outlines the work done. Steve is a perfectionist and his expertise is desinging and building engines with the objective of achieving WORLD LAND SPEED RECORDS as he did when he took the1952 record away from Rollie Free. I'm not a technical person but I can assure you when Steve does a job IT'S BETTER THAN WHAT THE FACTORY DID. He recently rebuilt my Ariel Square Four engine and when I got it back it started WITHOUT kicking it over, all I have to do is step through with the kick starter and by the time I'm 1/2 inch down on the stroke it starts. I asked him how he did it and he said he improved the engine from what the factory did in terms of air and oil flow by polishing all of the air passage ways, and improving the oil flow direction within the head; just as he does in his high performance Vincent Race bikes to achieve maximum performance. I'm sure when he did the 1967 Triumph he did the same sort of things as he always does - he focuses on quality and high performance. And when I have him do something he knows I'll pay to have it done correctly, I'm not one to hold back on costs because I don't sell my bikes often thus when I have work done on them its with the idea that I may never sell them. ONCE AGAIN, IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS EMAIL ME YOUR TELEPHONE NUMBER AND I'LL CALL YOU AND ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE. On Sep-08-10 at 06:56:21 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDITIONAL INPUT, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2010 ----------------Interesting history about Triumph's. Many famous celebrities have chosen the Triumph as the bike of their choice. The 1967 Bonneville Triumph, like the one I'm selling, was used by Steve McQueen in the movie "The Great Escape". The 1967 Bonneville has become well known and in high demand over some of the other Bonneville's not only due to the unique characteristics of the 1967 Yr but also partly due to Steve McQueen's use of his 1967 Bonneville in the movie "The Great Escape". The 1960s saw a stream of other Hollywood and home-grown celebrities riding Triumphs and cementing the marque's global cult status, including but not limited to Marlon Brando (The Wild One), Clint Eastwood, James Dean (Rebel Without a Cause) and Bob Dylan. In England the Triumph was, and still is, infamous for its connection to the "Rocker" culture centered around the Ace cafe. Additionally, the Triumph Bonneville was cemented in its legendary status due to numerous land speed records set at the Utah salt flats beginning in the 1950s and continuing through to today. In the 1970s the Triumph Bonneville was closely connected to the actor Henry Winkler and his role as the "Fonz" on the hit show "Happy Days". Additionally, the Triumph Bonneville is mentioned in various songs by Jethro Tull and Judas Priest. In the 1968 the stunt man Evel Knievel chose the Triumph Bonneville for his attempt at jumping the Caesar's Palace fountain. And today, the Triumph continues to thrive with the connection it maintains with many high-profile figures, such as Tom Cruise, Matthew McConaughy, Hugh Laurie, Nicholas Cage, Pink, and Joseph Fiennes, choosing to ride Triumphs. Recent requests from leading motion picture and television studios to Triumph Motorcycles have resulted in key motorcycle placements within blockbusters including Mission Impossible II, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Daredevil, Tuck Everlasting, Torque, and Terminator III.On Sep-08-10 at 14:47:02 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDITIONAL INPUT, WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2010 ----------------------- RESERVE HAS BEEN LOWERED-----------------------RESERVE HAS BEEN LOWERED ********************* The current BID is getting close to the reserve price thusTHIS BIKE WILL BE SELLING BY THE END OF THE AUCTION************************ Don't hesitate to send me your contact information (tele #) if you would like me to call you on my nickel and answer any questions you may have. GOOD LUCK BIDDING.On Sep-09-10 at 06:07:00 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDITIONAL INPUT, THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2010 -----------------------RESERVE HAS BEEN REMOVED ------------------------------ RESERVE HAS BEEN REMOVED------------------ THE CURRENT RESERVE IS $8,200.00 USD; the next bid will CLEAR THE RESERVE. THIS BIKE WILL SELL BY THE END OF THE AUCTION. Feel free to email me your contact information if you have any questions and I'd be happy to call you back and answer any questions you have. This is a GREAT DEAL; somebody will have a very nice bike at the end of this auction. ******************************************************************GOOD LUCK BIDDING*****************************************************************************On Sep-11-10 at 20:46:07 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDETIONAL INPUT, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2010 ------------------------------------------ I stand corrected in regard to my comment that Steve McQueen rode a 1967 in the movie "The Great Escape". I had someone correct me in the fact that the movie was made in 1963 thus it would have been imposible for Steve to have used a 1967 Triumph. The fact that it was a 67 was something I found in an article on the internet along with the names of other famous people and movies that involved Triumphs. I was told the bike Steve McQueen drove was a 1961 Triumph. I didin't question it because I knew Steve McQueen was a serious collector of British Bikes, and that the bike in the movie was a Triumph. Sorry for the error. Again, if you have any questions I can answere, don't hesitate to email me your contact information and I'll call you on my nickel to answere them. GOOD LUCK BIDDING ----------------THE RESERVE HAS BEEN REMOVED SO THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR SOMEONE TO PURCHASE A 1967 BONNIVILLE FOR MUCH LESS THAN WHAT YOU NORMALLY SEE ON THE MARKET AND/OR IN THE AUCTIONS. THE BEST THING ABOUT IT IS THAT THE BIKE IS READY TO ENJOY DAY ONE WITHOUT THE NEED TO SPEND AN ENOURMOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY ON IT TO MAKE IT LOOK NICE OR RUN.On Sep-11-10 at 21:11:19 PDT, seller added the following information: ADDTIONAL INPUT, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2010 ----------------------------------------- Someone just sent this to me in regard to Steve McQueen and Triumph's. Evendently he did own a 1967 Triumph identical to this one, but again it wasn't used in the movie "Great Escape" "Steve McQueen’s 1967 Triumph Bonneville sells for US $100 000 In an auction held on October 7, 2007 by Motorbilia Auctions, Steve McQueen's 1967 Triumph T120R Bonneville Motorcycle was sold for US $100 000." The auction was held at The MotorSports Museum of Orlando and also ran live on Ebay Live Auctions.
