Vehicle Detail
1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible This is a 1971 Oldsmobile that I was going to restore with my father, but we came across a 442 and decided to do that car instead. This is a fantastic car for parts or for the professional muscle car restorer who may want to perform a frame off restoration. You could drive this car for the remainder of the summer, and you have your restoration project all set for winter, or the awesome parts to finish a car that you've already started. I'm not going to sugar coat anything. This car will need mostly everything replaced to bring this Olds back to its former glory. It does have a beautiful running 350 engine with a factory 4 barrel carb. In fact the best thing about this car is how well the engine runs. Anyone who has ever owned one of these cars knows that when the engine runs as good as this one there is no finer car to drive. I purchased this car from the original owner, and she said everything is original on this car including the mileage. It was originally Sausalito Green with one repaint in a non factory Lime green. She had the lower portion of the car painted flat black to maintain the rust some years ago. The prior owner was a 90 year old lady that kept it in a barn for over 20 years, so it does have some extensive rust to the undercarriage, but you can tap your feet on the floors and it still feels relatively solid. The trunk pan is still salvageable as shown from the pictures. It still has the original carpet. The front seat bottom could use recovering as well as the rear seat bottom. The back portion of the front and rear are still alright. The best thing about the interior are the door panels, and the rear seat panels. They are all in extremely nice condition, and they're black, so they can go right on another car. These parts are all interchangeable with any 1971-72 Olds Cutlass or 442, and most of them will fit a 1970 too. Although this is a beautiful engine to drop right into another car. The engine is numbers matching to the body. I just took some sandpaper to the block and saw M15013, so those match the vin number. This car has the original AM radio, and the map lighted rear view mirror, but does not work. It also has dual sport mirrors, and a rare tilt wheel. The dashboard doesn't have any cracks, and all the glass is in good shape. All the windows roll up and down nicely, and I believe it has the original windshield with no chips or cracks. The stone shield, headlight bezels, and the cast iron grills are all in good shape. The expensive stainless steel pillar trim is very nice, and so is the stainless trim around the rear deck. This car was ordered with a posi-traction rear-end. I am unaware of the gear ratio, but that is a nice option to have. Most likely it is a 3.23 gear. There are 4 Cooper Cobra raised white lettered tires in decent condition on Super Stock wheels with bolt-on centers painted nicely in the original Sausalito green. The water pump was just replaced, and the engine sounds as nice as it runs. The radiator was flushed at the same time of the water pump replacement. If it didn't need some type of brake work I would say anyone could fly in and drive home. I have a guy coming tomorrow to check into the brakes for me, so I will give an update during the auction and post the outcome. That is the only mechanical problem I am aware of. This car could be used as a daily driver, but it has not been on the road for many many years, so there are no guarantees. I've owned it since 2005 and the title is clear and in my name. I would consider this a great parts car if you have another Cutlass convertible or 442 that needs restoring. The top works great, and has a back glass rear window. It does not have the normal Cutlass rips in the back. I don't know if it's the original top, but it's still in good condition. The trunk lid is off of a 70 442, and can still be used in a restoration. The inside lip of the trunk is in good shape where these cars would all tend to rust out. All four tail lights are in good shape with no cracks. These cars look great when you clone them into a 442, but I'm leaving any of those choices up to the next owner. Once again, this car will need a complete restoration or would be sweet for parts. I will answer all questions in a timely fashion. This is a no reserve auction, so please only bid what you are willing to spend. Thank you for your time and Good Luck!! On Aug-31-10 at 14:12:27 PDT, seller added the following information: This Cutty does have front disc brakes from the factory. On Aug-31-10 at 21:31:47 PDT, seller added the following information: The brake lines were replaced on the front right today, and this car not only runs great, it stops now!! Also replaced today were 6 feet of fuel line on the passenger side.
