Vehicle Detail
UNIQUE, RARE, ONE TON PICKUP WITH NINE FOOT BOX. PERFECT FOR A TOTAL RESTORATION PROJECT! This pickup is a 1949 3800 Series One-Ton Chevy Pickup. It has a very solid body (but with rusted out floorboards which need replacing) with a 9-foot long step-side box. Metal box is in great condition, not dented, used on a farm to haul grain. Also, the bed of the box is rotted out. Wood boards on floor rotted out and need to be replaced. Boards and metal frame for grain box included (some of the grain-box boards also need to be replaced). Engine needs to be overhauled or replaced (parked since 1998 when a knock developed in engine). We don't know whether it will start after 12 years or not. In addition, the key is missing. Buyer will need to have a key made. Engine has Fenton cast-iron dual exhaust headers – sounded great, purred like a tiger when in working condition. It has the 4-speed floor-mounted transmission with first gear being a "granny gear". The seat in the cab also needs replacing. Odometer has not worked for at least thirty years. Speedometer needle has fallen off. This truck has both front and rear original chrome bumpers. Floor pan is rusted out and needs to be replaced. Many replacement parts can be obtained from Obsolete Chevrolet Parts Co. in Nashville GA (e.g., new floor pans and sheet metal repair panels can be ordered from their Chevrolet Truck Parts Catalog). History - three owners: Present owner drove truck from Minnesota to Atlanta in 1978, and drove it to and from work in Atlanta at least once a week from 1978 until 1998 when the engine problem occurred. It has been parked in current location since that time. Will need to be hauled to buyer's location at buyer's expense. The weight of the vehicle is unknown. Engine includes a Fenton cast iron dual exhaust manifold. Engine needs repair and will not start. Other comments - The 1949 Chevy pickup is pretty much the same body as the 1947 & 48 pickups which were General Motors' first major redesign post World War II. The Advance Design series was billed as a bigger, stronger, and sleeker design and included one of the first 1-Ton trucks on the market. The grain box is available and some body parts such as drivers-side headlight rim, interior window frame, chrome pieces and the metal body seam for the hood are in a box. Ignition key is missing. Title of vehicle cannot be located. Bill of Sale will be written for sale of vehicle. ***PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE HAD AN OVERWHELMING INTEREST IN OUR TRUCK.
